Often times the problem with buying beer in Texas is that most of the places have a very poor selection of craft beer. This was the case today but I was in luck. They had Boulevard's Single-Wide IPA.
What an absolute lovely beer to pour out. Watch out when pouring this into your glass because the head grows quickly and doesn't like dying down. It grew very tall, creamy-frothy, and off-white. It had amazing retention to where it formed a bulge a couple of inches beyond the top of the glass and even after I drank the whole thing there was still some head left inside of the glass. The head looked like a fluffy pillow. It had some damn good lacing too. A lot of bubbles rose to the top of the amber/copper-ish beer. Tiny pieces of sediment swirled around to make it a bit murky. Awesome look.
The Single-Wide had a good smell. It's very hoppy with sweet and acidic lemon citrus, grassy earthiness, and floral.
There's some good bitterness from the hops but it's not too much. Orange and lemon citrus bring a tang and the acidity tingles the tongue. The malt brings out a graininess that balances things out. Tasty stuff.
Overall it's a smooth beer but the medium-high carbonation keeps it lively. Sweetness keeps it a bit syrupy and the finish is dry from the hops. Nothing to complain about here.
