Notes/Commercial Description:
Boulevard Single-Wide I.P.A. is our take on a style that originated in 18th century Great Britain. This American version—inspired by our Smokestack Series Double-Wide I.P.A.—boasts a heady combination of six varieties of hops, some of which were employed for dry-hopping.

Single-Wide IPA

Gorgeous pour on this beauty. Nice pale yellow body, with swirls of light orange mixed in. Amazingly tall, billowing suds of white head and everlasting lacing, one of the best heads I've seen on any IPA. Very lively carbonation streams, sticking to the glass etching with perfection. Just a really beautiful beer to look at.

Aroma is great, there is a lovely bubblegum ester right off the bat. A touch of banana, clove, and light white pepper. Along with great citrusy zest, hints of orange and sour lemon. Effervescent pale malt backbone holds the flavors together well.

Taste is once again, very nice. Upfront has a nice zing to it, with lots of juicy citrus hop complexity to it. Tangy white grapefruit, sweet oranges, and zesty lemon peel. Bubblegum esters add to juiciness and add some sweetness. Finishes with a touch of peppery dryness, along with some grassy/floral hops
to balance everything out.

Gotta love this beer, it trumps the Double Wide on certain aspects. The complexity and arrangement of the hops are beautifully done, and in amazing harmony. This is what I'm talking about!

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Shaker pint glass.

APPEARANCE: pours hazy, yellow/amber, two finger head with good retention that eventually dissipated to a thin unbroken layer of small off-white bubbles that remained throughout, lighter carbonation but appropriate for the style, significant lacing.

SMELL: piney resin, citrus, flowers, biscuit.

TASTE: the taste follows the nose, initially sweet, biscuits and then a piney hop blast that lingers nicely, not too overpowering but pleasantly hoppy.

PALATE: lighter carbonation, creamy and chewy, medium body.

OVERALL: I have not had a beer yet from this brewer that I did not enjoy, this is a very good IPA that is a little different than most because it is bottle conditioned and I think that adds to the taste, I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the IPA style.

Bottle brought back from Maryland by my girlfriend.

Pours a bright but rusty looking orange, opaque near the top of glass, but very clear and much lighter orange near the bottom. A one inch head forms, and descends quickly to an oily film, leaving a little bit of lacing.

Smells fairly bitter and dank, a little bit of citrus and a lot of pine.

The taste is similar. This is best by 8/20/13, but I'm fairly certain Boulevard dates their IPAs at a 9 month lifespan, so this is old. It's kept hop flavor fairly well, but it seems to have devolved into a non-complex bitterfest. Lots of pine, and grapefruit rind, with apparent juicy fruit flavor sort of faded away.

Medium bodied, a bit thicker than I'd expect from a single IPA. Very bitter, but still quite drinkable, with a medium amount of carbonation.

Not bad, but would like to try this one fresh.
