Notes/Commercial Description:
They say there are two sides to every story, and that’s certainly true of Two Jokers Double-Wit. On the one hand, it’s a revival of the classic Belgian “wit,” or “white” ale, with lactic fermentation providing a refreshing tartness. On the other hand, it’s a modern, uniquely American brew; big, flavorful, and spiced with cardamom, coriander, orange peel, lavender, and grains of paradise.

I was intrigued by the idea of “double” wit. Double as in Imperial, à la DIPA? Nope, this benefits from some souring (which I have yet to experience to such a degree in a witbier) and spice additions.

Pours an effervescent dull gold.
Smells strongly of lactic acid, wheat, and orange zest.
The taste on the forefront is an interesting juxtaposition of sweet and tart with notes of lemon citrus with a big wheat kick on the end. The wheat also adds slickness to the mouthfeel.
Very refreshing.

Paid $8 for a 750ml. Pours a bit foggy and amber; healthy looking, low head. Lacing OK. The smell was also just alright for me. I caught some clove, banana, wheat; a bit zesty to smell, I thought. That first taste was magical and a complete surprise. Not overly sweet, but the spice meshes well with the edginess of the zest and what little hops are there. Good carbonation, medium body, but its dryness makes me yearn for more—in a good way. So drinkable.

Final Thoughts: Of the few things we shared Saturday, this was the highlight. The Smokestack Series continues to be one of the most consistent seasonal/limited beer collections distributed in my area IMO. You simply can't beat the pricing on these 750s, and the beer is more often than not very enjoyable.

Had on-tap at Asheville Growler. Served in a pint glass.

A- Pours a semi-hazy medium amber color with a 1/4 inch white head that retains a bit before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of spackled surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a jagged ring behind.

S- Solid Belgian yeast aroma brings notes of banana, coriander and a hint of bubble gum.

T- Very different from other wits I've had as there is a very pronounced citrus element that seems to be equal parts yeast and hops. Sweet but with a good dose of spices to round it out. Juicy, slightly tart, more bubble gum. Alcohol is very well hidden.

M- Somewhat zesty but kind of thin and dry. Medium carbonation and a lightish body.

O- Very unique flavors going on here. They've pretty much pinpointed the ideal construct of an imperial witbier.
