Notes/Commercial Description:
They say there are two sides to every story, and that’s certainly true of Two Jokers Double-Wit. On the one hand, it’s a revival of the classic Belgian “wit,” or “white” ale, with lactic fermentation providing a refreshing tartness. On the other hand, it’s a modern, uniquely American brew; big, flavorful, and spiced with cardamom, coriander, orange peel, lavender, and grains of paradise.

Poured from a 750 oz. bottle into an Abita cylindrical glass. It's an orange-gold color with a huge white head. Great retention and lacing to the frothy head.

The aroma is very spicy, citric and strong coriander smells to it. There's a little ginger cinnamon smell to it as well.

The flavor is a lot like the aroma. Spicy with a multitude of flavors coming through. The coriander is still the most dominant note.

Great mouthfeel, creamy and a perfect flavor blend throughout each sip.

Great beer, one of the best yet from the Smokestack series.

A 750 ml bottle from their Smokestack series.

Pours a dark yellow/orange with cloudiness and good white head. Not much lacing

Nose is incredible with yeast, floral and great spiciness. Coriander and clover or other flowers.

Taste is very nicely blended spices, sweet orange with some malt and Belgian hop finish.

Mouth feel is rather sticky with great carbonation.

This beer is a joy to drink. One of the best.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass, forgoing the Hoegarden witbier glass of yore. Good solid pop off the cork.

A real nice deep apricot orange, with peach yellow highlights. Nice small rising carbonation in the middle with a soapy ring and soapy two finger head that settles quickly. This body color is very unique and impressive for a wit, really beautiful, really like it.

What a unique bouquet on this beer. Huge amounts of mint and peppermint candy like aromas. Spiced clove and sweet nutmeg like qualities. Spicy spicy SPICY! Zesty lemon and great herbality. This is large, not overly sweet either, unique, and real impressive.

Palate is real surprising too. Tart juice apricot and orange flavors, on a real soft chewy malt body with a bit of give and wetness to it. Mint action washes but stays away from sweetening things up too much. Lots of brown and warm spiced finish on the aftertaste, complimenting the mild tart aromas, almost with a winter warmer like quality.

What an interesting take on a heavily spiced witbier, they really showed off on this one.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into two generic goblets. Thanks to HeatherAnn for the assist!

Batch No 1-2009

A: Pours a hazy, pale-gold. Very cloudy with a pillowy and full three-fingers of foam perched on top. The head featured great retention and left a beautiful mess of lace stuck in the lace. Carbonation was quite active.

S: Very balanced nose of banana, clove, tangy citrus, toasted malt, grains, red apple, and fruity yeast.

T: Loads of fruity yeast, spices, toasy malt, and a slightly tart apple flavor in addition to sweet spiced pear and peach.

M: Creamy and full with a spritzy prickle on the tongue. Does an excellent job of coating and also not being to heavy.

D: Fantastic! Heather said it was a masterful combination of Wit and Saison. Awesome!

750ml bottle, purchased in Fayetteville, Arkansas while on a "road trip".

Appearance - Big frothy lush white head forms upon initial pour. Lots of lacing clinging to the glass as this ample head resolves. Lively carbonation and a slight haze to add to the yellow/slight amber colored offering

Smell - Big bold nose. Lots of yeasty, grassy aroma. Some spicy notes as well. Very grainy but exceedingly pleasing. You can't miss thi. Very appealing.

Taste - The spice notes make their appearance early and with affirmation. Loads of coriander and orange peel cover the ABV nicely, while adding to the overall strong malt backbone.

Mouthfeel - The first thing that hit me when I took the first sip was the density. This isn't a thin witbier. There is a big mouthfeel to this offering with a chewy body without feeling too heavy.

Drinkability - An 8% ABV witbier? Wow. An amazing easy-drinking summer offering with a big beer heft and body. I would never have considered a witbier to be a "sipper", but this is very close. Outstanding "bending the style" rules to show just what you can do with a wheat beer. Kudos to Boulevard for a great beer. Wish this was available locally.

Reviewed from notes:

P: Big head with great white lacing and retention. A cloudy golden yellow color with streaming bubbles.

S: Herbs, orange and lavender, spices very evident.

T: Tart orange with mild malt flavoring. Great bubbles and a wonderful mix of herbs and spices. The flavors compliment each other nicely. Champagne like and very refreshing.

O: 1st witbier and will not be my last. Very impressed with this brew and will enjoy more in the future.
