Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard we have fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were experimenting with variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a big surge of fruity aromatics and grapefruit-hoppy notes, the flavor of this complex, straw-colored ale tapers off to a peppery, dry finish.

Originally, I enjoyed this on tap this past summer at Jack's Stack, a local BBQ place here in KC - loved it then, so I'm really looking forward to it now.

I visited three different stores to find this one on release day, but I've got something to celebrate - more on that (much) later.

Wow that's a heady beer - I'm writing this to give my initial smooth pour a chance to die down. Two-and-a-half fingers worth of fluffy white head, anyway. After it finally died down, it left behind a thick lace - more like drapes, blocking the view from the outside.

What lies underneath is a beautiful golden yellow, sending small bubbles of carbonation skyward.

Earthy, with a grand dose of funk on the nose, underscored by a bit of lemon and some of that horse-blanket that's usually found in these funky beers. Really pleasant.

Similar to their other saisons as it has a light bit of florals and maybe some fruit. In contrast, you definitely pick up the hops here - added bitterness and a bit spicy in the mouth.

A really mild and smooth funk in the mouth - that's pretty awesome. Seldom have I had a beer that was so subtle in delivering such flavors.

I'm trying not to be a "homer" here, but I love this beer. A unique and enjoyable beer - it's nice to get truly excited about drinking a beer. Thanks BLVD for having a "persnickity" fermenter.

Pour is a hazy gold, well carbonated, large head.

Smell is belgian yeast, spice, little clove, citrus and banana.

Taste is citrus upfront with just a hint of bitterness. This opens up to sweet fruitiness - banana, mushy apple, maybe a little sweet tangerine - and yeast. It goes down smooth, but leaves a hint of spice at the finish. No hint of alcohol in this at all.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, maybe slightly on the thin side. A little creamy, with a healthy dose of fizzy carbonation. Really great for the style.

This is really sessionable, but at 8.5% you probably don't want to down too many of these. An excellent summer beer.

My first Boulevard brew and I must say I am pleasantly surprised!

A: Slightly cloudy, golden appearance with lots of carbonation, topped off with a two finger head from a hard pour.

S: Mild clove, citrus and yeast.

T: Crisp taste, light especially for ABV, nice floral aftertaste.

M: Tingles, very similar to champagne.

O: Great Saison, keeps you reaching for more.

A merengue tinged head pillows atop a cloudy haze of lemon colored beer sporting heavy carbonation...

The smell is very aromatic, fruity with honeydew and lemons

Grapefruit, Lychee and melon in the front, a tinge of bittering hops in the rear, some dry alcohol as well

A medium body, pummeling carbonation and a hint of warmth

Overall a great beer, definitely done american style with the heavier hops, also quite a large amount of booze for the style, but enjoyed thoroughly

Amazing saison. Smells of lemon, Belgian yest and fruit notes. Taste is heavy on the lemon, grapefruit and Belgian yest with a little bit of that saison pepper. More thirst quenching than water basically.

12 oz bottle. Best Buy 7-27-12

Clean hay-funk yeasty smell. Acidic to the nose. Highly carbonated - clear yellow color. Foamy white head, mountainous and holds well. Laces the glass nicely.

Yeast flavor dominates the palate. Hay and citrus mixed with light grains. Bitterness is strong and smooth. Dry mouthfeel with is accentuated by the CO2 level. Carbonation is spot on, exciting but not abrasive. Taste better before it wears off. Very straight forward flavor profile. Highly drinkable beer.

~super approachable farmhouse ale for any trying out the style.

Very bright yellow in snifter. There is a bunch of particulate matter circulating in it. Nice thick white head. Very nice lacing on glass. Smells nice. Clove and maybe some leather. Citrus is there too. Certain je ne sais quois to it as well (sorry to dork you out). Taste follows pretty well. Good carbonation. Overall nice and would definitely buy again but like others in this style a little better.
