Notes/Commercial Description:
Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard we have fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were experimenting with variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a big surge of fruity aromatics and grapefruit-hoppy notes, the flavor of this complex, straw-colored ale tapers off to a peppery, dry finish.

Smoooth sweeet are the fiirst two words that come to my tongue as I first start sucking this surprisingly lovely treat down. Nice color. Very refreshing.

I think the new standard for Belgian Farmhouse Ale was set here in the USA by Ommegang Brewery with their Hennepin. Head to head Tank and Hennepin look very much alike with a golden murky straw color with nice white foamy heads with good sustenance. Ommengang murkier with a sturdier head. Tank is almost clear.

I give the edge to Hennepin though but just barely. I find Hennepin has a nice citrusy finish that is so fine. More malty sweet yeasty. That's what I like personally. But Tank 7 will find a place imy cooler some of the time. It has a lite sweetness that is thirst quenching and refreshing. Tank 7 finishes a little drier with less fruitiness than Hennipin. More hoppy. Regardless, Tank 7 is a great world class brew. Enjoy. Highly recommended.

I recommend that you accompany this wonderful brew from Kansas City with some vocals by Karrin Allyson "From Paris to Rio," who vented a lot of her chops in KC herself.

A - Very cloudy orange, thick creamy head, good retention. Decent lacing.

S - Earthy, pepper, citrus, phenol, and alcohol.

T - Slight amount of citrus, good amount of earthiness, some pepper. Dry and tart.

M - Crisp, medium mouthfeel.

O - Very drinkable. I don't like it as much as Hennepin, but it's good stuff.

The smell/taste review by nsheehan below sums it up nicely but here is my review. Initially based on the smell I lost a lot of excitment for this beer. The taste then helped recover the experience. If I were to comparte this to another beer it would be the Left Hand St. Vrain Trippel, although in my mind it would be the higher end version. Definitely worth a try, I would probably have again, but glad I got the 12oz. version instead of the bomber. I hope this review helps you.

First saison and highly impressed. This is an instant "go to" beer and I literally went out and bought some more. Light and refreshing, hoppy, citrusy, nice sour notes, great color. Some spice notes of clove(?). Dry on the finish. Slight acidity with no aftertaste - very clean. Maybe some fruitiness - almost an apple or maybe white wine grape, nice green notes (like good olive oil) in the nose, not so much in the taste but enough to perk up the taste buds. Loved it, looking forward to trying others in this style, but also wondering why...got a good one with Tank 7!

Poured a nice hazy gold colored body with very little visibility even though its a light colored beer. Thick and creamy 2 finger head with good retention. Smells of small hints of pint, grapefruit, and some earthyness. The fruit aromas are of strong resin. Taste? Well, delicious to say the least. Nice hoppy taste with a sweetness to even things out. Tropical fruits add a nice touch to the palate. Nice flow from start to finish. Finishes with a tangy kick. Creamy mouthfeel from start to finish.
Overall this is a very tasty beer. Wish i had purchased more then just 1. Price is not bad either for how good this is. I've seen this style of beer go for twice as much, with half the quality.

Got this beer as part of smokestack series thanks to lnashsig, thanks Lee!

Appearance- Pours a slightly hazy orange/yellow color with a large head that I didnt bother to measure because I'm in awe. Very nice lacing, and exploding carbonation. Looks incredible.

Smell - Citrus, Grass, Hops. Yeast comes through as well.

Taste- Sweet honey and banana. Nice spice and clove. Fruit notes as well. Nice. Oddly tastes very similar to Delirium Tremens, even though they're totally different styles.

Mouthfeel - Nice carbonation, bit dry and slight bitter/dry finish. Reminds me a bit of champagne on mouthfeel. Possibly from the carbonation, but most saisons I've had do not have this character.

Overall - I recently had Stillwater Cellar Door (draft) and I thought it was the best saison I've ever had. So unfortunately I cant say that this one is in that category but its very good. Anything that tastes like Delirium is a tasty brew.

Definitely worth a pint.

EDIT:
After having a few more of these I really like this beer, but the dry finish really throws a wrench in it for me. If not for that this would be a top saison.

After tasting the Long Strange, I immediately sought out other Boulevard brews in the Smokestack series. Poured this into a pint glass.

A: It's certainly a pale beer. Straw, golden-rod color. There's a white 1-finger head that sustains decently, and as I drank it, a nice, droopy lacing clung to the sides of the glass. Very hazy looking, not much carbonation.

S: Very strong grapefruit scents up front, covers up the yeast used. Underneath were some mildly earth-like tones that didn't always show up when I smelled it.

T: Grapefruit comes back, with a nice, tart hoppiness coming along for the ride. Also, some grassy flavors decided to hit the back of my tonge. Flavorful; tasty.

M: It's almost like a soda. The body is quite light, almost thin, and the carbonation is very sharp. 8% ABV is hidden very well.

D: Definitely a summer drink. It's affordable, light-bodied, and easy to find around here. I'll certainly seek out another bottle soon.

Overall/notes: Never had a Farmhouse ale before, and I must say, it's pretty damn good. Maybe I didn't like it as much as their tripel, but honestly, that was a tough act to follow, and this did just fine. After a couple of weeks drinking Stag and vodka (college student with 2 partiers for roommates), this Smokestack series has been a nice breath of fresh air. Definitely beers worth purchasing.
