Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard we have fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were experimenting with variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a big surge of fruity aromatics and grapefruit-hoppy notes, the flavor of this complex, straw-colored ale tapers off to a peppery, dry finish.

Light yellow color with solid carbonation and a strong, billowy head. Smells hoppy with a hint of grapefruit and orange. Wow. Great taste! The grapefruit comes through but it's not too overpowering. It's just enough to cover up the boozy taste but not too much that it blows your taste buds off. Very drinkable. Sweet and tart at the same time. Great balance. I'm a big fan of this beer at sip number two. I can't wait to finish it.

Poured from bottle into a Belgian Duvel snifter.

A: Golden Orange and opaque. Nice frothy lacing about 1 to 2 fingers depending on how you pour, and moderate yeast clumping in the head. Carbonation is noticeable. I love the way this beer looks when poured...Like a big Orange with a frothy white head.

S: You immediately smell pineapple and tropical fruits with some of the farmhouse Belgian yeast and Citrusy hops not far behind. Big and bold very pronounced....not hard to get a good whiff of the aroma. The hops profile almost reminds me of an IPA with Belgian character.

T: Belgian yeast and hops compliment each other beautifully. Citrus and pineapple in the hops but just a bit of a hint of pine in the flavor. Hops seem to lead the way by a pronounced margin over the Belgian yeast, but the Saison funkiness is there. Tastes of more American style hops than European. Not very dry but slightly sweet with good bittering from the hops. Aftertaste of citrusy hops

M: medium bodied, right amount of carbonation.

O: A great example of the Belgian Saison with an American twist on the hops. I don't know if Boulevard uses American hops, but the flavors are a meld of our hop profiles and the Belgian yeast styles. A good combination. One of the better versions of this style done in the US.
