Poured into a Trappistes Rochefort goblet this beer settles a nice, slightly dark red/orange color with a 1 finger white head and doesn't really stick around too long. Practically no lacing in the glass. Smell is of mild fruit with a bit of woodiness and medium strong malt as with most stronger doppelbocks. Taste is almost sour to the tip of the tongue with a slight bitterness towards the back. A little spice and a hint of alcohol, not strong but noticeable on the palate. Similar to average German dopplebocks, Boulevard provides a nothing spectacular but in no way disappointing brew to be enjoyed if not just for the experience of trying something new. Not different but new as in not previously available. Not sure that I will be revisiting this beer any time soon but I wouldn't say that it's not worth a try. Just not that into much for German style brews unless they're authentic or extraordinary I suppose. Still worth a try so check it out.
