n8dietz totally earned his '09 DL for this haul.
Aged on cedar.
The color is a somewhat transluscent copper and medium ruby mix. A thick tan head holds at two fingers for about five minutes, then disappears. Very visible carbonation.
A fruity caramel malt bread hits the nose at first. Then a woody cherry and plum vie for position. This is a great smelling doppelbock.
The taste starts dry and heavily toasted malt sweet. Caramel and fresh bread crusts come to mind. Sweet black cherries and other dark skinned fruits play around with some very faint earthy, but undeniably woody flavors. This is a unique tasting doppelbock. PLus a syrupy carbonated texture with just a slight warm finish complete this beers profile.
Maybe aging with cedar will start to catch on. I certainly hope so.
