Poured from 750 ml corked bottle into a Smokestack Series tulip. 2nd batch of 2009, best by 8/2010. So this one had a little bit of age on it, picked it up in Minneapolis while on a trip for work. I haven't noticed this one here in Kansas City of late.
A: Pumpkin pie in color with an orange-white head. Nice head retention, little lacing. Nearing opaque with slow-moving bubbles.
S: Caramel, apple, a touch of breadiness and cedar plank. Everything blends nicely into an inviting aroma.
T: Malt heaven with coffee notes. Bready in the middle. Fruitiness throughout with a cedar finish. A touch of hops and a fair dose of alcohol at the finish line.
M: Full malt body with a rich creaminess that gives way to touch of dryness at the finish.
O: Definitely an 'alt' dopplebock, the cedar aging gives new dimensions to the style. Complex and a bit of its own monster. Not exactly in line with others in the style. I don't think I would buy this again as, the cedar was a bit much.
