750mL showing Batch Number / Best By Date : 2010-1 / 07/2011.
Golden apricot color, hazy by the end. Big head like Duvel.
Smell reminds me of their Tank 7 Saison. Tropical fruits, honey, and hay.
This really reminds me of their Tank 7 and Imp Pils with Orval - that's not a bad thing though! I wouldn't have thought Barley Wine at all, other than the label. Earthy. The wood is subtle but very nice. Could use some more complexity, but I enjoyed it.
Fairly dry for the abv. Not too sweet - the French and American oak, and unique hops, help with that too.
Very drinkable, I easily drank most of the 750 before starting the review. I think the high amount og wheat makes it deceptively light and drinkable.

Poured into a Funky Buddha Brewery snifter. Back label says Best By 6-2013. Didn't even think to check the date when I bought it.
A- Pours a medium amber color with a full inch of off-white head that retains very well before slowly dropping to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a full sheet of surface foam.
S- Yeasty, spicy aroma with lots of fruity phenols. Little hints of butterscotch and other candy-like smells.
T- Tangy and sweet wheat with a noticeable alcohol taste. Still, pretty smooth and drinkable but the promising aroma has lead to a not-so-exciting flavor. More candy notes like in the smell but the booze takes away from their character.
M- Medium-high carbonation makes for a spritzy quality which I always like but the alcohol bite slightly stings the back of the throat. The body leans toward the lighter side.
O- I think I'm starting to dislike wheat wines more than I have in the past. It seems like it's a style you really have to nail to be enjoyable yet I haven't had enough examples frequently enough to know what needs to be achieved. Guess I'll just have to keep trying different ones out.
