Appearance: The Dark Truth pours pitch black with 2.5 fingers of tan head. It reduces very slowly and the resulting lacing is chunky and fluffy.
Smell: Roasted malts, coffee and chocolate all intermingle about evenly in category to provide the bulk of the smells. I also get some plum/fig-like dark fruits as well.
Taste: There is a lot going on here. Roasted malts right up front, expresso and chocolate following right behind that. Dark fruits really show up on the back end, plum and fig, with a bit of hops and booze on the back end. Complex and nice from top to bottom.
Mouthfeel/Drinkability: This beer is a bit light with quite a bit of carbonation. It certainly isn't as smooth as a lot of other imperial stouts I've tried. However, leaning towards medium bodied really does make it very drinkable for the style. I could put down a few of these with no problem.
