Notes/Commercial Description:
Throughout the ages, man has been fascinated by the quest for hidden knowledge, the search for the secret to transforming the elemental into the extraordinary, the simple into the sublime. Ladies and gentlemen, we present for your consideration this exotic, inky concoction, the almost magical creation of our modern day alchemists who have turned humble grains—barley, wheat, rye, and oats—into black, liquid gold. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, crème brulée. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish.

12oz into Boulevard tulip

A- Jet black, huge spongy dark brown head with staying power.
S- A bit of roasted/smoked malt, but lacking in aroma overall.
T- Roasted malt, dark fruits, a little bitter and a tiny bit sour finish, alcohol is well masked.
M- Low carbonation, thin for this ABV, very drinkable.
O- Nice stout, but at this price point I would not buy this again.

A: pours black with three fingers of tan head that fades into a thick ring with great lacing.

S: roasted malts up front followed by lots of sweet molasses and dark chocolate aromas. Creamy coffee with some char notes bring up the finish. Smells great.

T: strong toasted malt flavors at first, with dark chocolate flavors following. There are some roasted coffee notes along with lightly bitter char flavors on the finish.

M: thick body with medium carbonation, this beer is more carbonated than most imperial stouts, but it goes well with the bitterness of the beer.

O: a good imperial stout, overall. Nice and roasty with a great aroma.

Almost entirely opaque deep brown with just a hint of ruby gleam. Huge tan head on first pour, with significant lacing. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate on the nose. Not much of a milk or sour aroma. Not very spicy to smell.

Prickly on the lips at entry, but I can't tell if it is acidity, alcohol, or carbonation. Dominant burnt malt flavor segues into a little hop bite and an small alcohol burn. Creamy mouthfeel, with nice medium-to-high carbonation. A little sting left on the tongue along with a dry malt aftertaste. The aroma had much more chocolate than the flavor. All things considered, the alcohol is really undercover here.

Boulevard's description mentions the Belgian yeasts, and the fruitiness they impart. I wouldn't have picked up on that myself, but I can start to taste the yeast in the finish.

Poured from bottle into tulip. Pours a deep oil black with brown fizzy hesd. smells ofroasted malts and coffee. Taste is of sweet roasted coffee malts, well slightly sweet. A bit bitter mouthfeel, but likable in the style. I can compare it to the bitterness of a guinness (a beer everyone knows). Overall, nice Imperial stout..alcohol is well hidden and good flavor.

Poured from bottle to a Boulevard tulip. Best by 01/15/2014.

A: Nearly opaque with a monster thick and foamy cocoa head.

S: Plum, floral hops, roasted malt, and charred oak.

T: Quite a bit going on. Plum, roasted coffee, earthy hops, charred oak a hint of vanilla. Very nice.

M: Very creamy and smooth with quite a bit of alcohol warmth from the 9.7% ABV. The carbonation is perhaps a bit too noticeable at times, pairing with the plum to give a sparkling cider sensation with some sips. The sweetness clings a bit too long as well.

O: Very enjoyable stout. I don't like it quite as much as some of its barrel-aged brethren, but it is a strong entry to the field (and readily available here in Kansas City, thankfully).

Bottle poured into an imperial pint glass.

A huge mocha colored cap rises to fill the glass, threatening to spill over, but retreats slowly to a thick layer of foam. Sip lines are prominent. The body is a deep brown with reddish edges.

Dark roast, plums, and a little bit of peaty smoke. Pretty straightforward aroma, not a ton of depth. Clean.

The flavor profile is a little more robust. Dark roasted malt comes in layers while the Belgian yeast strain adds some fruity notes of plums and cherry. There is a sneaky peat/smoke flavor that I really like. Alcohol is well hidden.

Once this hit room temp, the feel really filled up. Full, creamy body. A lingering bitter roast and peat flavor last for quite a awhile.

This is a nice stout, but it lacks some depth I would expect in an imperial/double. The Belgian yeast strain is a nice accent. Good beer.

This is an enjoyable stout
