Notes/Commercial Description:
Throughout the ages, man has been fascinated by the quest for hidden knowledge, the search for the secret to transforming the elemental into the extraordinary, the simple into the sublime. Ladies and gentlemen, we present for your consideration this exotic, inky concoction, the almost magical creation of our modern day alchemists who have turned humble grains—barley, wheat, rye, and oats—into black, liquid gold. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, crème brulée. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish.

A - pitch black with a large, thick, dense, brown head that has good retention

S - roasted malts, coffee, dark fruit, anise

T - chocolate, coffee, anise, roasted malts, some dark fruit, alcohol

M - crisp, a bit overcarbonated, full bodied

This is a rich, complex, smooth, highly enjoyable stout. There are notes of dark fruit and licorice in addition to the huge roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. I thoroughly enjoyed this offering, and I'll definitely be having it again.

Have had this for a little while and found it in the way back of the cooler while I was stocking my mix a six. Comes from a 12 oz bottle and poured into a stout glass!

A: Beer pours very dark black with a huge creamy, tan colored head that recedes very slowly.

S: Aroma just flows right out of the glass with dark roasted malts, some dark fruit like plum and some smokiness.

T: sweet roasted malts and dark chocolate make up the flavor of this stout, with hints of plum and spice towards the back end with a smoky finish.

M: Creamy and smooth, the alcohol is present in the taste to a degree, but its not really that bad.

O: Good stout, got it for a steal of a price and would definitely buy this again, if I can get it for the same price ;)

Picked this up at a new bottle shop in MA. Poured a 12 ounce bottle with 5/07/2014 best by date into an oversized Duvil glass

A – Pours dark, black. Tan to mocha, 2 finger head with good lacing.

S – Dark fruits (raisin's), Coffe, Cocoa aroma. Definitely malty

T – Sweet up front with coffee, raisin, cocoa... finished malty, smokey. Really nice and very hints of the 9.7% abv.

M –Medium bodied with good carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden by the flavor here

O – Good beer, glad I picked it up. I would definitely recommend it for the fall/winter season. I love the labeling by Boulevard here as well, it would have definitely caught my eye if I didnt already search out this beer. Cheers!
