Throughout the ages, man has been fascinated by the quest for hidden knowledge, the search for the secret to transforming the elemental into the extraordinary, the simple into the sublime. Ladies and gentlemen, we present for your consideration this exotic, inky concoction, the almost magical creation of our modern day alchemists who have turned humble grains—barley, wheat, rye, and oats—into black, liquid gold. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, crème brulée. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish.

A - Jet black with half a finger of mocha head that settles quickly.

S - Not at all what I was expecting. Raisins, currents, and figs dominate the smell on this. Spices, roasted malts, and a hint of dark chocolate are present in the background. More of the aroma I would expect from a dark Belgian.

T - Lots of dark fruit in this one as the smell suggested. It's pretty roasty and smokey as well and the alcohol is certainly present. This is a very different imperial stout than what you'd usual expect.

M - Medium bodied and creamy with a lot of carbonation. A bit too much on the carbonation, but it adds to the uniqueness of this beer.

I've never had an imperial stout quite like this. The dark fruits, warm alcohol, and creamy body make for a very pleasant beer. Really impressed with this one.

Boulevard is a very coool beer company, and the Truth is another very coool unique beer. Very heady, dark beer. I couldn't get much aroma off it, but the flavor was very dark fruity and Belgian stout style. Now like a good Belgian brew this is a unique product. Maybe not the world's best but damn unique.

I loved the sweet maltiness and some smokiness too. The texture was not too thick but very rich and creamy. Very nice.

Well this pairs with the greats of the KC music scene. If you are into bebop get Charlie Parker's Quintet Jazz at Massey Hall. But if you swing Count Basie

Poured from the bottle into a goblet.

Pours almost black with a half finger of creamy tan head that sticks around nicely. The nose of just a little sweet with some roast and dark fruit. The flavor is a bit more interesting. I'm getting mildly bitter roasted malt and dark chocolate notes. There is enough sweetness to balance things out, but the sweetness doesn't dominate by any means. The body is just on the thick side of medium and the beer coats the mouth for a while after finishing the sip.

This bottle had some age on it and the beer was quite smooth. Everything worked well together.

Pours dark black with a thin ivory head that fades to a very slight ring. Dark malt, molasses, chocolate, and a fruity Belgian yeast. Nice, but nothing new. Taste is similar, more roasty malt, molasses, dark fruit, and cocoa. Mouthfeel is smooth, with a medium-full body and ample carbonation. Tasty stout, nice bitterness and roasted quality.
