With roots in two of today's most popular brewing styles, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer is the result of careful cultivation by our brewers and cellarmen. Their efforts to craft a hybrid yielded a bumper crop of flavor; a delightfully distinctive ale with the aroma of an IPA and the refreshing taste of a wheat beer.

Slightly cloudy with minimal lacing. White foam with yellow color. Fruity, hoppy aroma with the same taste. Crisp and refreshing with a very slight bitterness. Overall I was pleasantly surprised, this is definelty a go to beer.

Pours hazy, as you would expect from a hefeweizen, but still with a bright, yellow golden hue. Aroma stand-outs are of yeast and bready wheat, but with a hop undertone. Flavor is exactly what you'd expect: a sweet wheat with a touch of bitter finish. Tight carbonation and fluffy, wheat-driven stark white head. Very light mouth feel. This is a great representative of the new hoppy wheat trend, rivaled only by Hi-Wire's Hoppy Wheat.

On tap at the Old Town Pour House. Nice, golden (slightly orange) color with very little head. As advertised, has a little hoppy-IPA influence with regards to the smell along with all the best attributes of a great wheat beer. Solid citrus burst, primarily hints of orange. Leaves a wheat filled aftertaste and is a beer I could drink all day on a hot summer day.

8/14/15 Washington House

Look is hazy yellow. Kind of flat looking with a thin minimal head that disaptes quickly.

The smell is ok. Sweet hops but rather faint.

The taste is ok. Thin on hops and bitterness. It really doesn't give you much of anything. And a thin feel too. A bit watery.

Not good. Just and on to below ok beer.

On tap. Golden yellow appearance. A nice hoppy, citrus smell. The taste was a little less impressive. Well-balanced but none of the flavors really stood out. A good amount of hops but not overwhelming- I would guess around 30 IBU. Overall, pretty good- reminded me a little of Lagunitas Lil Sumpin but a more tame and less complex version. It was a little one note for me, but still a solid beer.

Best by 9/25/15.

Pours a murky golden-yellow with a foamy off-white head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of wheat, grain, earth, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with wheat, earth, citrus fruit, and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice mix of wheat and citrus forward hop qualities that are slightly better in the taste to me.

Serving type: bottle.

Being that I reside in central Illinois, I asked associates what is the closest beer that we carry that resembles Gumballhead by 3 Floyds. They told me to try the 80 Acre by Boulevard. Have to say I was a bit skeptical at first, but I am so pleased that I gave it a shot. A fantastic combination of two styles that I love (wheat's and IPA's). Hints of citrus and zest on the initial taste from a wheat, with the thickness and hops from an IPA. I must say I am relatively new to this style of beer but this can go toe to toe with Gumballhead any day.

The aroma of orange-y hops smacks your face at the first sniff followed by a slight wheat aroma. The orange hops essence also leads a gentle assault, if that’s a thing, on your tongue and is again supported by a slight wheat presence. 80-Acre may be the perfect beer for hot summer days. It is so clean and simple that it reminds me that sometimes the most basic beers can be the most refreshing.

Pours a murky straw color with a medium sized white head. Recedes after a bit leaving no lacing.

Aroma sides closer with an APA that a wheat. Citrus hops dominate at first whiff. Followed up with the familiar what and lemon notes of the wheat side.

Alternatively, the taste involves itself a little more to the wheat side. The citrus is present, but limited to a more subtle grapefruit and some moderate hops and hop bitterness. More prevalent are the orange and lemon notes. The citrus comes through a bit more as it warms, additionally revealing some surprising sourness and even more bitterness.

Light bodied. Refreshing. Very drinkable. A perfect summer beer.

Overall, a solid if unspectacular beer. Could've capitalized more on the pale ale part of the taste, but zeroed in a little bit more on the wheat aspect. It works, but not my personal taste. Still would be a great beer to down a six pack of on a hot summer day.

A: Unfiltered wheat yellow color with fluffy white head.
T: Grapefruit citrus hops with light malty backbone
M: Light body with smooth mouthfeel
D: A nice wheat beer with a citrus kick. Not overly hoppy but the hops add a flavor profile that mixes well with the wheat style. Very drinkable and nice for a hot summer day

Very solid beer. Not too bitter for those that are not big into IPAs, but still has the signature feel of an IPA. Would be a great summer beer as it is extremely refreshing. Easier to drink than an IPA but has much more character than most wheat beers. Highly recommend to those who enjoy either IPAs or wheat beers.

Citrus hops with a mixture of orange and tangerine aroma. Cloudy unfiltered wheat appearance. Mildly sweet citrus hops followed by an all wheat beer finish. Very impressed how they were able to match the two styles and make an extremely easy to drink beer. I can see myself having a few of these sitting by the pool on a hot summer day.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 4/23/2015. Pours hazy deep golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, wheat, cracker, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with bright citrus/piney hops and light-moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, wheat, cracker, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Light pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange zest, light pine, wheat, cracker, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Very nice complexity of bright citrus/piney hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish as expected of 5.5%. Overall this is a very nice hoppy pale wheat ale. All around good compelxity and robustness of bright citrus/piney hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

- Hoppy wheat BB 04.23.15. Consumed 04.23.15 in a spiegelau ipa vessel.

A: Heavy hazing against a grapefruit yellow coloring packed with a dense, quick paced rate of effervesce of macro-bubbles. Chalky white, milky foam head of 1.5 inch is moderately retaining while leaving a full unbroken band of lacing behind of spongy texture.

S: Grapefruit, sugary grains on the nose with some sweet pine resins. Soft attributes, short lingering aromas quickly tampers off with some fresh wheat impressions and sweet floral.

T: Wet, citrusy grapefruit, light wheat grains, accented with spicy orange grinds. A soft background of grassy hops combine with some fresh wet greenery with a touch of lightly sour citric, wit infused dry orange and wheat fairly clean off the tongue.

M: Crisp tingly carbonation, light creamy base.

O: Crisp and refreshing wheat beer of moderate hopping that goes down rather easy. While i would of liked to see a bit more hop ummph hop wise, this is meant to be a wheat beer first with some light hoppy accents to spruce things up i believe making for a good summer time enjoyment. I did drink this at its end of life preference for consideration.

As I am not a big fan of really hoppy beers, I was unsure of what to expect. The balance is superb and the feel and taste of this beer is far above my expectations.

Some this beer comes up short for me. Its not a bad beer. Compared to other brewers who have combined these two styles thus one seems like a weak version of both.

Pours to a huge and lacy head that stays at 3/4 inch or more the whole time. Smells of a top tier American wheat with more late hop additions of the pine and floral variety. It smells like a hoppy APA wheat beer hybrid as expected. Flavor is sharp and tangy wheat and those delicious herbal floral hops (not so much pine and bitterness in the taste which allows the wheat base to refresh the palate. Mouthfeel is light and pleasing. Overall, I'd put this on the keeper list.

In a glass from a bottle pours very pale yellow and cloudy with a nice two finger foam head. A faint piney hop smell and a little more prominent in taste. Called a Hoppy Wheat. Hops are certainly present but not overboard which I was expecting. And that's not a bad thing. Loses some head but never completely. A little lace. Goes down nice with no bite or lingering aftertaste. Very good and at 5.50% Very Drinkable Bartender.....I'll have one more.

Sampling right now on 3/26/15. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a vintage "Boulevard" tulip glass.

Brew pours a hazy golden-yellow in color with a good 2-finger foamy white head that finally settled down to around 5mm after a while. A good amount of sticky ring-like lacing is seen when sipped that sticks to the sides of the glass.. The aroma is of pine and floral hops for the most part. Pretty much the same for the taste with some citrus zest also. Really not as hoppy as you might think and not a I.P.A. style brew either which I am not a big fan of. Just a very slight bitter finish is noted BUT wasn't bad and didn't last long. medium-bodied with good carbonation. Overall not a bad brew as I am not really a big fan of American Pale Ales for the most part.
