Notes/Commercial Description:
With roots in two of today's most popular brewing styles, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer is the result of careful cultivation by our brewers and cellarmen. Their efforts to craft a hybrid yielded a bumper crop of flavor; a delightfully distinctive ale with the aroma of an IPA and the refreshing taste of a wheat beer.

Cloudy golden hay color with a stalwart head. Smells like grass and bread dough. Unmistakable new tire smell too. A little sweet on the palette like sweet dough or a Twinkie with some grassy citrus. Soapy at times. Some prickly resin on the tongue for depth.

Interested to see how this stacks up against my fave APWL from NEBCo (no pun intended, really).

A: Attractive and bright. A sunny golden. Nice bubbling and overflowing head with a pure white color that compliments the beer perfectly. Better head retention

S: Sweet malt grains mostly. Hops come in with florals and some spice on the backing. Not as complex or differentiable, but good all the same.

M: Light bodied and highly effervescent. Smooth but has a nice sting to it.

T/O: Tart citrus lemon squeezes into a sweet pale crackery malt base, and they play off of each other very well. Light passionfruit sweetness and very nuanced. It has a really good flavor, don't get me wrong, but the overall experience lacks in something. I don't want to sound snobbish for a BA, but it doesn't seem as elegant; and NEBCo is brewing out of the back parking lot of a car dealership. What I mean is this beer is best for warm weather whereas NEBCo's Alpha Weizen I could but can't drink all yr round.

A: Pours a slightly hazed but vibrant golden/yellow color. A dense white head rises to over two fingers with sheets of lace.
S: Citrus fruits. Lemon, orange, and grapefruit. Husky wheat aromas. A white pepper like spiciness, mixed with a light bitterness lingers.
T: Citrus fruits and grapefruit up front. Light banana esters as well, but not full on like in a regular hefe. Which works well with the hops. Cereal grains and toasted malts. Husky wheat, and white pepper. Lingering grapefruit bitterness.
M/D: A light to medium body. Soft carbonation, but still crisp and ultra smooth. So easy and enjoyable to drink. All day with this.

It is a wonder why I don't drink this more often? Always spot on. The wheat and hops work perfectly together. While different interpretations, it is up there with Karbach's Weisse Versa as one of my favorite wheat hybrids that are not full on Hefe's.
