Notes/Commercial Description:
With roots in two of today's most popular brewing styles, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer is the result of careful cultivation by our brewers and cellarmen. Their efforts to craft a hybrid yielded a bumper crop of flavor; a delightfully distinctive ale with the aroma of an IPA and the refreshing taste of a wheat beer.

Poures from bottle into pint glass. Cloudy straw color with fluffy white head. Nice piney hop and wheat aromas. Some citrus notes.
Taste is grassy and citrus lemon hops with a nice wheaty backbone. A little thin but overall a great refreshing brew. I like oberon a bit more when comparing the style.

I've had this both on tap and in bottle, and as one would expect, I liked the draft version better. Extremely drinkable and pretty nice mouthfeel. A bit mild in flavors, not a lot of banana, but still reasonably enjoyable. Comes up a bit short from Boulevard's other offerings.

Served on-tap in a Shaker pint glass at Boylan Heights (Charlottesville, VA).

A: Lemon juice hue with tons of haze and barely any head and a tiny spittle of lacing.

S: Super hoppy aroma of grapefruit and pine aromas, some floral notes as well, and a lot of tanginess.

T: The flavor is very citric with the grapefruit and lemon flavors being a bit overpowering and not balanced with any other flavors. I don't taste any of the floral or other more complex hops notes. The malt component is pretty bland. It is undoubtedly drinkable but one-dimensional. There is no yeast element in the flavor and the bitterness is low. A little more malt sweetness would help with the hops charge -- or just less hops.

M: Thin but it's supposed to be, but even this is less substantitve in body than I would like. THe carbonation seemed off as the beer drank like water, and not in a good way.

O: Not a big fan and tastes like it could use some revisions -- reminds me of a so-so homebrew version of Gumballhead -- no nuance or complexity, just hits you over the head with a couple of of hops flavors without much else.

Appearance: A nice, cloudy pale golden that I expected. I usually don't say much about labels, but I really like this one. My family has a couple tractors similar to the one depicted on the label... good memories.

Smell: Lemon, grains, and other stuff.

Taste: Flavorful, but light enough to drink when it's extremely hot out (like now). A lot of beers go overboard with the lemon thing, but this one doesn't.

Mouthfeel: It's light while avoiding being watery.

Overall: I like 80 Acre, and have bought it more than once. I'm not the biggest fan of wheat beers, but saw "hoppy" and "Boulevard" and tried it, without remorse. This is a nice one to convert macro-drinkers with.

Picked up a 6er of these at my local Whole Foods.

A: Poured out a saturatedly murky yellow color with a slight white head. Looks tasty.

S: Hoppy is right. Sure, I got a good amount of wheat in there, but also a good bit of orange and more than a hint of lemon.

T: Very refreshing, almost thirst quenching even. This is not a hop bomb beyond any stretch of the imagination.

M: Crisp on the end and not bitter... it contains almost the sillouette of a bitter beer if that makes any sense. Mild splotchy lacing.

O: Infinitely drinkable and just downright fantastic.
