Notes/Commercial Description:
With roots in two of today's most popular brewing styles, 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer is the result of careful cultivation by our brewers and cellarmen. Their efforts to craft a hybrid yielded a bumper crop of flavor; a delightfully distinctive ale with the aroma of an IPA and the refreshing taste of a wheat beer.

12 oz. bottle, with best by date 08/08/2013. Acquired as part of a mixed six pack at the local Binny's. A beer from Boulevard that I haven't tried yet. Looking forward to it; I have generally been impressed with what Boulevard has to offer.

Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.

A - Pours three big fingers of towering white froth for a head, on top of a light lemon-straw-yellow colored body. Tons of carbonation bubbles going crazy everywhere, and lots of fine sediment. Head retention is pretty significant. Nice fat sheets of lace.

S - Smell is of light earthy / pine hoppiness, tart lemongrass, watermelon rind, dusty grainy wheat malts, and some yeast presence.

T - Taste is of lightly toasted grain, pine hops, lemon, some herbal / grassy qualities. A fairly tame tasting beer. Reminds me of what the Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat Beer would taste like with a nice dose of hops added to it. Light to medium bodied, and definitely over carbonated.

M - Feel is smooth & clean, with a bit of sticky juiciness and hop resins lingering around.

Overall, not my favorite outing from Boulevard, that's for sure. A light, sessionable, drinkable beer, but too carbonated and bloating for my liking, and not enough hops or lemon fruitiness to keep me interested. I'll stick with Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat Beer and Boulevard Single Wide IPA.

A- Pale golden body with a slight haze to it. Thick, foamy white head that stays around for a while and leaves some sticky lacing behind.

S- Wheat, lemongrass, spicy hops with a hint of tropical fruits, fresh grass, hints of sweet malt.

T- Wheat shows up in a big way all the way through. Hops add a slight citrus quality with a dash of some tropical fruits before making way for more wheat.

M- In between a chewy wheat beer and a smooth hoppy pale. Slightly dirty mouthfeel, but very drinkable.

O- Pretty good wheat beer. Definitely more of a wheat ale than hop forward beer with wheat. The wheat really shines in the flavor.
