Another ridiculously hard to open bottle from Boulevard.
Pours slightly murky amber, with a thick frothy head. The beer fizzed quite aggressively during the pour. Lots of sticky lacing.
Sweet chocolate in the aroma combines with citrus and maybe some banana? The smell starts off pretty mild, but as the beer warms, it begins to come out quite nicely.
Because the aroma was so mild initially, the taste came as a very pleasant surprise. Roasty and chocolatey without being all that sweet. It's quite interesting. If I couldn't see the beer I wonder if I would think it was much darker. The beer is rich and decadent without being cloying in the slightest. Hints of sweet citrus. Finishes with nice dark chocolate bitterness.
The carbonation is high, but the body of the beer is full and silky. It coats the mouth with dark chocolate awesomeness.
This is a very interesting beer. The chocolate provides tons of roasted flavors, but it remains relatively light on the palate. The idea to make it a lighter beer to really feature the chocolate was a good way to go in my opinion.
