Poured from a 750ml corked and caged bottle into a Duvel tulip. Batch 2011-3 and Best By Date of 02-2012 on back label. It was a slightly hazy golden yellow color with a massive amount of floaters and good carb. Really surprised by the thick flakes in here. More typical of something that's sat for a few years instead of a release in July. It had a massive 3+ finger white head that took forever to settle into a thick foam cap fed by the carb. Great lacing with plenty sticking. Except for the flakes it was a good
The aroma was good and interesting with a pleasant mix of herbal and grassy hops along with the coriander and orange from the wit along with good dose of lemongrass and touch of sage. Good aroma and mixed well which has been a problem in a lot of these mixing of styles. The flavor matches the aroma and again is a good mix of the styles. It's more IPA than White but you still can see the Wit in here. Starts out with the fruity and coriander of the wit and then the grassy hops and lemongrass quickly jump in for a nice flavor ramp-up with a nice smooth finish. Mouthfeel was medium with a bit too much carb for me (a real burber this one). Good aftertaste.
Overall, an excellent beer that succesfully blends two styles into a cohesive treat. Highly recommend. I like that is gives me some good hop flavor but also has some good fruit and spice elements. I love a good hop bomb but this one is great when I want some hops along with other elements. Available here in TX. Rotation - gonna have to grab some more before it disappears. Hopefully, it gets re-released down the road. [R;Y]
