A - Pours a very nice amber with a huge 4 finger offwhite head. Very good retention

S - Very mild aroma. Slightly dissappointing. Smells somehwat sweet. Slight citrus

T - Really tame flavor as well. Not much going on. They rye is present. Somewhat malty

M - dry in the mouth. Perhaps from the rye. Liht bodied beer. Slick feeling

O - Definately drinkable, but not much going on. Fairly bland. Was really hoping for more

Dark copper brown in color. Fingernail thin layer of foam rests upon the top. Good clarity. I definitely get the spiciness of the rye in the nose. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth. The front of the palate is definitely the rye, but it is quickly balanced with some hop flavor. Pretty straight forward, but a pretty good brew.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass. Bottle says best by 04/24/14.

Appearance: Pours a deep and fairly hazy brownish amber orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Big three finger off white head which slowly settles into a thinner creamy layer. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A toasty, bready, and fairly spicy malt forward aroma. Toasty pale malts with upfront hints of biscuit, grains, wheat, caramel, toffee, yeast, straw, and cracker. Spicy hints of rye bread. Fruity hints of apple and slight citrus orange. Dark fruit hints of raisin, fig, and dates. Subtle hints of earthy and floral hops in the background. A pretty nice bready aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints at, a bready, toasty, and fairly spicy malt driven taste. Toasted pale malts with good notes of biscuit, wheat, grains, caramel, toffee, straw, cracker, and yeast. Good spicy notes of rye bread. Subtle fruit taste with notes of apple and orange as well as some dark fruit notes of fig, raisin, and dates. Light backing notes of earthy and floral hops towards the finish. A pretty solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Nicely creamy, spicy, and smooth. Finishes fairly dry.

Overall: A pretty solid take on a rye beer. Good toasty malt notes with a nice kick of rye spice.

The Westside Rye is a unbelievable rye session ale. I would drink this all-night. The beer poured a hazy amber with thin white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent is carries rye in the form of a wet corn meal. The taste is evenly balanced between malt and hop. The mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a decent session ale...but there is a heinny/stella after taste...but overall it is tasty!

Picked up as part of a mixed 12 sample-pack, BBD 01/06/14

Pours a super-effervescent copper/brown with 1 finger of khaki colored head. Good lacing & above average head retention

S: Faint pepper, brown bread & leafy hop notes

T: Some pepper notes, a bit of brown bread sweetness, & not much else up front. Dryness & some pepperiness as this warms, slight toastyness as well. Finishes dry, peppery with a little bit of leafy hops

MF: Kind of thin, slight carbonation, picks up as this warms

A run of the mill rye beer, nothing to see here...

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle labeled 3353-1033-F-BEST BY 05/18/14. Sampled on April 26, 2014.

The pour is mainly amber brown with a little reddish hue if held to the light. Some cloudiness which could be a chill haze, and little to no head.

Aroma: Well, not much to it. Yup, some rye and barley grain notes and a basically clean hop crispiness but nothing jumps out as out of the ordinary or particularly special.

The body falls in the light to medium range.

The taste brings out a better rye grain character than the nose and then there is a stronger caramel sweetness that kicks in and a fuller bitterness. But this all has to be taken it consideration with the bland aroma. It tastes better than the bland aroma suggests but does that make it better? Not especially. Ho-hum. OK.

Murky orange body with reddish highlights. Thin layer of parchment colored foam, lasting surface skim. Minimal spotty lace.

Aroma is toasty with some apple esters.

Prickly carbonation, tangy rye graininess, mildly bitter aftertaste. Sort of one dimensional, but it has some distinctive rye flavor to it. Overall just ok.
