Another selection from the "why did they bring this to a hop harvest festival" entry from the Sierra Nevada Single, Fresh, Wet & Wild Festival in Chico, CA. Being a big derby fan, I had to check it out.

Pours a whiskey like amber color. Fails to maintain headspace. One of the more unique, but not necessarily good aromas, a mixture of mint julep (whiskey/mint) but also a tripel yeast and super hot alcohol. I think this might be as good as Vicks Vape O Rub for clearing up your sinuses.

Taste wow, this is more mint than the mixed drink itself. Still plenty hot. Still plenty phenolic. Yeast and mint. When have I ever wrote a review with those words together? Its quite a bit of mint. Its not enjoyable to drink, I couldn't even finish my sample of a few ounces. It sounds cool on paper, but in execution, this isn't a beer I want to drink again or tell people about (in a positive way at least). Props for trying, but to improve, less mint, a lesser yeast, less booziness versus more barrel presence.

This beer pours a medium amber with an average head. The aroma is absolutely sodden with mint, with hints of clove, prune, and wheat whiskey. The flavor is again dominated by the mint, with a strong presence of whiskey flavors, and some spice in the background. It is, as the name implies, strongly reminiscent of a mint julep. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, and very creamy. Overall this is julep like, but the mint really dominates. Make sure you want a lot of mint berfore you embark on this one.

The mint flavor, which I expected to be overpowering, is actually very smooth and mellow. It's yummy, and provides a great counterpart to the usual tripel flavors.
