Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial Pilsner |  7.70% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
With its classic recipe and impeccable craftsmanship, this summer seasonal is a study in delicately balanced contrasts. Up front, Pilsner malt makes a clear yet restrained statement, answered by the steady, harmonious hum of Saaz hops, traces of which linger in the dry, crisp finish.

An explosion of bubbles fills the Pilsner glass to the rim and continue unabated, keeping the huge white head in full effect. Color is pale yellow with golden hues. Smells of fresh squeezed lemon, grain and a hint of grass. Not much going on aroma wise. Flavorful light fruits and malt are quickly followed by a subdued hoppiness and an afterthought of caramel. A bit of spice lies underneath it all. Not as dry as expected, and actually has quite a creamy mouth-feel. The alcohol heat tickles the throat. Overall this one is quite balanced and drinkable. And while I'm not the biggest Imperial Pils fan, I'm thoroughly enjoying this one.

Picked up a growler at Breeze In, Lemon Creek location, Juneau AK.

Into a pilsener glass.

A: somewhat clear golden yellow colored body with a nice two fingered white foamy head that dies within about thirty seconds. What lacing there is tries to cling but slides for the most part, but there really isn't much lacing at all to be honest. I do see some carbonation rising at a decent pace

S: nice combination of peppery spices playing with a slight citrus/lemony of sorts, some white grapes with a floral aspect show up as it warms

T: slightly bitter to begin with and as it starts to warm a nice grassy maltiness comes out; floral yet grassy aftertaste with a quick dry finish

M: sits light on the body with a good carbonation for an American Double Pilsener leaving enough harshness but not overly doing it, decent sessionability

O: Nice American Double Pilsener that I would have again and would definitely put it up with its respected food. Personally, I think I could do this with a nice big juicy steak right off the grill.

Corked 750ml into pilsner glass.

A: Pale honey, clear, bright golden yellow. A lot of large bubble carbonation. Airy head that dissipated quickly, soapy lacing, pencil thin after resting. A good example of the style.

S: Slight citrus, peppery, lime, hoppy presence, white grapes, light malt tones.

T: Starts with a bitter citrus, hoppy, pilsner malt flavor. Floral and grassy. Finishes sour and lemony with a small alcohol tinge.

M: Light and effervescent. Dry finish.

O: Good for the style but nothing to particularly write home about. I would drink this again if I was looking for something drinkable on a hot day but not something that I would go for in sessions. Overall, not something I'd crave but paired well with the applewood bacon BLT I had it with. Would pair well with lightly flavored pizzas, lemon/citrus grilled chicken or a good BLT as I had.
