Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass. Bottle says best by 04/26/14.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Big three finger white head which slowly recedes into a thinner creamy layer. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A bright, ripe, and juicy hop forward aroma with big hints of citrus fruits and floral hops. Upfront scent of juicy citrus hops with hints of orange peel, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, tangerine, apricot, and lemon zest. Floral hop hints along with some earthy hop hints of pine resin and grass. Soft pale malt backing with some hints of grains, cracker, biscuit, straw, and yeast. A really nice juicy aroma.

Taste: As juicy and good as it smells, a big taste of hops with some solid notes of citrus fruit. Upfront taste of ripe, juicy, and nicely bitter citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, and lemon. Good taste of floral hops. Earthy notes of grass and pine resin. Bready pale malt backing with notes of biscuit, grains, cracker, straw, and yeast. A very hop forward and good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very juicy and fairly chewy and bitter. Finishes dry.

Overall: A very impressive take on an American IPA. Has the big citrus taste of the West Coast style with a nice floral element. They definitely need to release this more.

Pours a cloudy yellow/goldenrod with a thick frothy head. Citrus hop aroma, specifically orange peel. The malt takes a back seat here to let crisp citrus hops shine. Leaves a lingering “leafy” finish.
Despite boasting 100+ IBUs there isn’t a harsh hop bitterness.
It’s too bad this beer is only ¼ of a 12 pack and not a full time offering as I certainly want more!

Tasted at the Boulevard Brewery tour tasting room on 7/5/2013. This is a new beer going into the new sampler "test" packs in the Kansas City area (yet to be released) - dubbed the Tasting Room Series. This was explained during the tour as the hoppiest beer Boulevard has ever brewed, at 104 IBUs. The bitterness was balanced very well in this beer. I can't wait to get it in a sampler pack to do a more controlled tasting and more in-depth review. It pours much lighter than the Double-Wide IPA, and has a much more earthy aroma and flavor than the piney hops of the Single- and Double-Wide IPAs. Can't wait to learn (and taste) more about this beer.

I was fortunate enough to taste this one on a brewery tour, but only got a small sample. Happy to see it part of the sample pack.

A- Clear, near translucent honey/straw color. 2 finger white head. Fantastic retention and lacing. Beautiful looking IPA.

S- Dank citrus- grapefruit, mango, peach, and pineapple. Hint of sweet, wheat malt base.

T- Bring on the hops! Fresh hop oils. The 100 plus IBUs come strong with an intense floral and fruit bouquet, but not to be outdone by an outstanding malt base that steps up to the plate with a perfectly timed rebuttal. So juicy! Subtle bitterness in the finish.

M- So refreshing and drinkable despite the intense hop level. Mid body, smooth, almost sticky.

O- Just the way I remember it from the brewery. Fantastic. An absolutely dynamite IPA, and one that I hope Boulevard continues to distribute.

Pours a hazy pale golden, with a massive clinging white head. Interesting aroma of orange peel and almost a hint of onion. Taste begins with a sharp herbal flavor, followed by a hint of table water cracker, then a huge bitter orange flavor, and a bit of pine in the huge bitter finish. Mouthfeel is good. Overall a damn fine beer, one of Boulevard's best.

Poured from a bottle with a best by date of 4/26/14, into a pub glass.
Appearance - a hazy, though bubbly gold. A thick, foamy, white head that leaves adequate lacing.
Smell- a second try of this has proven to have a better nose! Much more citrus up front and hints of grass.
Taste - hop forward, but with a nice malt balance!
Feel - good hop bitterness and the complexity of the malt and yeast make this a solid beer!
Overall - a really good IPA offering (especially for the price) from Boulevard!

The Mid-Coast IPA is AWESOME! The beer once opened left a very very nice bouquet of pine and citrus. Once poured in the glass the scent became a bit more floral with some bitterness. The beer was golden clear with nice white head that is leaving a lace. The taste starts bitter then subtly then dissapears on the finish....however, you wait a moment....then the bitterness come back....nice. The mouthfeel is medium body beer with good carbonation. Overall ANOTHER excellent offering by the Boulevard Team!

Appearance: Golden straw. Pretty clear but has some haze (dry hop?). Effervescent with lingering white cap. Nice lacing.

Aroma: Wonderful hop aroma - citrusy and leafy, like smelling fresh hops (cascade?). Among nicest hop aroma beers I've ever had.

Taste: Expectations set by aroma are met. Great hop balance and flavor throughout the swallow. This is hop flavor, not bitterness. Leaves a bit of antiseptic in back of throat, but very pleasant. Could use a bit of malt.

Mouthfeel: Pretty dry and light.

Overall: This is a good beer ... can easily be a regular.

Golden, slightly hazy clear and white a nice white head. Looks strong, inviting.

Big, fresh citrus, pineapple - fruity, but not overly so.

Heavily-hopped, but not in an obtrusive way. Grapefruit like the nose is up front, but the trailing bitterness is vegetative, somewhat leathery and completely unique from anything they've done or I've enjoyed in the past.

Coating and almost numbing on the tongue, dry and sticky to close. Very light carbonation lets the hops sit square on the tongue with being over-pricked.

Love this addition to the Boulevard roster - just had a Twitter convo with @Jeremy_Danner about this beer. Highly-hopped, easily drinkable, looking forward to future rotations through the series.

Had to get the sampler 12 pack.

Best before 3/4/14. Check. Shouldn't have that issue.
A: Light, transparent golden-amber body with white foamy head. Beer has sat for 20 minutes & thin foam remains.
S: Tropical fruits, pineapple, mango, & mandarin. Some floral, like orchids and blossoms.
T: F'ing delicious. Pineapple, mango, pine, floral all come together and deliver with a sweet and bittering aftertaste. Much cleaner than I expected before the pour.
M: Rather light bodied. No chewiness, a plus in my book. Bitterness does linger for a bit. Heavier body would probably enhance the whole experience.
O: A really nice suprise for hopheads. I like the mosaic and citra hops used. If they did this as a regular(4 packs), I would first inline. Good work Boulevard.

Enjoyed out of a short brown 12 oz bottle with the new "tasting room" label and touting itself as Boulevard's "hoppiest beer ever". Didn't happen to see the freshness date, but this bottle is from the sample packs that just hit stores in Kansas City within the last couple weeks. Poured into a small Belgian-style tulip glass.

Appearance - Pour yields a one-finger frothy head of stark white dense foamy microbubbles. Dissipation takes a few minutes and leaves sticky but fairly sparse lacing. Body is golden straw colored and a slight haze as well.

Smell - Big citrusy grapefruit characteristic, with acidic hops dominating the nose. Almost clears your sinuses because it's so distinct and piercing. CItrus gives way to some piney notes as well as a light graininess that makes sure the hops don't overwhelm.

Taste - The promise from the nose delivers strongly with a pungent hoppiness that reminds more of chewing on grapefruit rind. Pine resin provides a little bit of chewiness to the hops that would otherwise be a bit astringent. Definitely delivers on being their hoppiest beer to date. This one could replace Single-Wide and I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Mouthfeel - Light and juicy up front, but evolves into something with a bit more stick to it. Medium bodied and resinous with carbonation level on the high side of moderate. Dry finish.

Overall, a fantastic new beer from Boulevard. I certainly hope this one makes it out of its "sampler only" status. This beer could be bottled year round or seasonally and I would buy it often, I think.

Very nice IPA that reminds me some of Summit Saga...Oily hop aroma...pine combined with fresh citrus....thinking lemons...very fresh smelling...

The taste has a nice hop flavor to it....100 IBU's but not unbalanced....lemony citrus along with a tighter piney bitterness....this has some finishing bitterness to it but it is not unbalanced at all...

Body is light side of medium..

The more I drink the more the bitterness on the long finish becomes more pronounced in a good way...

Very solid IPA I may have to include in a big blind taster I have coming up...

Poured from a bottle out of their sample 12 pack...poured into a snifter. Cotton candy white, heavy foam head. A sticky, long lasting lace. Slightly hazy, light golden raw honey on the eyes.

The nose...Pine, grapefruit, lemon...the usual suspects for an IPA.

First drink...heavy carbonation combined with a nice creamy hop hit. The middle is very balanced, creamy sweet honey blends with the sweet and sour of the citrus making an incredibly smooth center. Then the bang...pine and grapefruit rind along with the hoppy 104IBUs creates a dry, clean and crisp finish...a slight bitter lingers on the tongue. It's says it is at 5.6% but I've only drank half my beer and it seems much more?

I'm really surprised at how good this is, wasn't expecting much but am pleasantly surprised. Great hoppy IPA that they call a tasting room only?...I'd bet the farm that this ends up becoming a regular Boulevard offering. Would definitely buy this in a six if they offered.

12oz. Bottle
American IPA
Reviewed w/ThreeLions.
Golden amber honey color, unfiltered and cloudy. Pine notes with a lemon zest undertone. Slight smell if citrus somewhere between orange and pink grapefruit.
Taste: the lemon and citrus comes through with the pine taste being a lesser taste. Also has a light simple syrup taste that comes through in the end.
Mouthfeel: Effervescent springs to life with the initial taste and finishes smooth and slightly creamy.
Overall maybe the best mass produced IPA I've had. I wish boulevard would make this as a staple instead of just in a sample pack.

Pours honey colored with 3 fingers of cream colored head. Very nice lacing & above average head retention

S: Pineapple with grapefruit, faint breadyness

T: Follows the nose, big time hop bitterness & citrus notes up front. Pineyness, grapefruit, some biscuitty malt dryness as this warms. Finishes with much grapefruit, dryness & a touch of bready sweetness

MF: Medium bodied, with soft carbonation, nice balance

One of the better AIPAs Boulevard has done, put this in the rotation please

Just being from the midwest, I found though comedy in the title of the beer - "mid-coast IPA." And yes, at 100 IBU's it is pretty nervy for a bunch of Kansas City kids.

The appearance is pretty spot on - golden yellow, white frothy head that's about a half an inch thick, dissipates slowly, and maintains its layer throughout the beer.

The nose is wonderful- young grapefruit, hops, green apple peel

Taste- 100 Ibu's of tasty. I've yet to overcome the dominating flavor of hops, but there's a touch of malt in there as well.

Overall, I'd buy this in a 6-pack. It's more straightforward than their 80-acre offering (which is also awesome) and I could find myself enjoying these over and over again. Definite recommend.

personal note: It came in a sample 12 pack, and it's the best sampler pack I've had to date.

12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a slightly hazy golden straw yellow with vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Nice spotty lacing on the glass ad the beer was drank.

Smell: Nice resiny, floral, and pungent tangerine and grapefruit. Some sweet pale and bready malts with a little bit of orange peel in there too.

Taste: Awesome pungent and resiny tangerine, citrus, and orange. Sweet pale and biscuity malts with mild lingering bitterness. Very tasty brew.

Mouthfeel: A bit smooth, chewy, mild lingering bitterness, light bodied, refreshing, crisp, very drinkable, and medium carbonation.

Overall: 104 IBU's? No way. Bitterness is actually reasonable and tolerable. Everything rolls together in this brew and I wish I had more. Let's hope this becomes a full time production brew.

Up front honesty right here, I'm usually biased against high IBU beers (This one is 100+) and lingering bitter isn't really what I'm into right now.

But even with that, this was a good brew. All of the other surrounding characteristics are spot on and I'll admit I probably could have had another if the case wasn't out of them. It also doesn't feel like the bitter flavor continues to get stronger as you drink it either, so again, that plays in it's favor with me.

That's actually my biggest strike against this beer—you need to buy a 12 pack to get to it. I understand it helps get it out there in the market easier, but I feel bad for anyone who really likes the beer and wishes they could get more of it. :-)

Overall, a very good IPA that hop heads should really like.

A Transparent amber. Thick foam. Good retention.

T Really floral and really hoppy. Greasy and bitter. And bitter. And bitter.

M Light to medium. Foamy and a bit sticky but nothing out of style.

Best By 12/10/2013

Pours a very pale golden color. Pretty translucent and clear. There is a nice half inch head that is nice and white. It is pretty dense and sticky and recedes down to a nice thin film at the top of the brew.

Aroma starts off citrusy as ever! Notes of tangerine and orange. Nice grapefruit rind and notes of citrus bitterness and acidity. There is also some nice grain in the background behind all the intense notes of hops. Grassy and herbal as well.

Flavor starts off intense and citrusy. Big pungent hop notes with some intense bitterness and palette destroying citrus notes. The brew gets more palatable as it warms but its still intense and hoppy. There is also more tropical fruit notes as it warms. SOme slight mango and pineapple. The finish is dry and abrasive. Good hoppy and refreshing IPA with a lighter body.

Pretty good take on the West coast style by the Midwest folk.

Bottle split with Hab11

A: Bottle pours into the glass a very hazy straw yellow color with a one finger head and lots of carbonation. This is the perfect way to start a warm Spring afternoon in the sunshine. Lots of haze and lingering, active fizziness.

S: Very hop forward. delicious smells come right out of the glass. Notes of citrus and passion fruit, lots of passion fruit. Smells like a glass of juice sitting in front of me. Can't wait to try it.

T: Balance is the best word I can use to describe this. Very refreshing brew. Lots of bitterness but not overpowering at all. Fruity. Bigger sips reveal lots of grapefruit. Can't find the ABV on the bottle; doesn't seem light but is very sessionable. Could drink this all day long.

M: Great carbonation. Definitely not too thin, not too heavy, fairly creamy. Great mouthfeel overall. Again, lots of balance in this beer.

Overall: Great brew to start off the day. Great sessionable beer that I am glad Boulevard decided to let the greater public have a try. Great balance on a pretty good beer. Would definitely drink again and would love to see Boulevard release into a more regular rotation with greater availability.

Light pale gold with a slight haze. Trace of white foam. Some lacing. Smells lightly resinous a bit of citrus with a decent helping of caramel malt. Taste is citrus, orange and grapefruit rind, lightly pine resin. Nice dose of biscuity malt. Medium bitterness is nice. Medium body is lightly creamy and holds together well. Mild bitterness lingers. Finish is clean. Not the prettiest brew and smells mediocre a but really overall a nice drinkable moderately bitter, crisp beer with a light yet nice hop flavor.

Got in part of a 12 pack mixer.

A&S: Spider-web lacing, good head retention. Lively, translucent hazy yellow colored beer. Aroma isn't super pungent but consists of primarily lemon citrus with some grapefruit tones.

T&M: hop-heavy but not overwhelming. Mostly citrus hops with a bit of tropical fruit tones. Slight presence malty (almost rye-like) background. Mildly bitter semi-dry finish. Crisp feel, but not shape.

Overall: It was the best of the 12-pack, but nothing mind blowing. Better than I anticipated. Very drinkable.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a nonic.

A: Deep golden hue. Pours a 2 finger, frothy, white head. Pervasive rising effervescence. Craters slowly, and unevenly; but never completely, leaving a thick foam blanket on the surface of the brew. Thick, dry beer ring lacing. Effervescence continues to rise throughout.

S: Pine cones, lemon, and hay.

T: Pine nuts, lemon zest, grapefruit pith, and tonic water.

M: Crisp, hearty, and syrupy. Very bitter, with a dry finish.

D: The character will dictate a sipping experience.

Atmosphere is excellent. Golden with a thick frothy head, continually rising effervescence, and plenty of lacing. Hay, pine, and citrus... and lots of it. Bitter pine, plenty of bitter lemon and grapefruit, and seltzer water kind of feel. Overall, this is a really good quaff.
