Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

It's been far too long since I've had some Boulevard goodness. This stuff pours a clear brass topped by two fingers of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises light pine resin, light grapefruit zest, and an evanescent twinge of lime. Did I mention things were mild, light, et cetera? The taste holds notes of pine needles, grapefruit rind, powerhouse grass, and mild honey. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a generally fluid feel. Overall, a solid IPA, but one that doesn't really impress, either. It's a tasty bit, but nothing I'd likely go out of my way to get again.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy golden orange with big yeastie floaters and a big fluffy white head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is bready malts and some fruit and floral hops.

The flavor is sweet malts with some citrus and a good sized floral, slightly resiny, hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a bit watery.

Overall, a decent bitter IPA.

Pale straw gold in color. Excellent clarity. Inch thick head of foam. Grape fruit like hop aroma is fairly intense. The flavor definitely matches the aroma. Like biting into a grapefruit. Fresh hop flavor and intensely bitter. Mouthfeel is a bit thick and slightly chalky. Nothing amazing.

Pours in a glass with a thin white head, pale color yellow with a hint of orange... Smell is citrus, grapefruit, nice hop aroma. BItterness is there on the tongue some citrus brightness as well... 100 ibu not sure it reaches that level but nice on the bitterness level. Lacks a malt backbone at all so I wouldn't call this balanced but if you're looking for a hoppy brew and enjoy the other beers in the mix pack give it a try.

Pours out dark yellow in color with a two finger white head with great retention. Definitely some nice lacing. Smell is really tropical with pineapple, orange, and a tiny bit of mango with a slight bit of piny bitterness in the nose. Really a good smelling beer. Taste is more malty than I expected from the nose. Definitely has plenty of malt to balance out the hops. I certainly taste the tropical but it is way more balanced in the nose. To me it tastes like a well balanced APA and not so much an IPA. There definitely is a little bitter aftertaste that stays with you though in the mouth. Mouthfeel is pretty nice for the style with plenty of carbonation to make it a little thicker and more like an IPA. Overall this is a great beer. Tastes more like an APA to me but the other characteristics are right on for an IPA. Great beer overall. I'm just grading the taste a little lower since to me it tastes more like an APA.

Another thanks to my brother and his friend, without whom I would not be enjoying this beer. The bottle says "Best by 4/26/14"

It pours a finger of nearly white head over a straw yellow body. Makes a good attempt at lacing.

Mild citrus and flowers greet the nostrils. A little pine really fleshes it out.

Starts off with a grainy taste that quickly finds pine. The pine keeps going through the end and meets up with grapefruit, orange peel and flowers.

Medium bodied. It leaves quite a bit of residue on the back of the tongue. Dry finish, as is expected.

Pours nice bright golden yellow. Head stays around forever and a day.

Nose is full of hop, but not overwhelming. Earthy, but nice.

Mostly hop in flavor. Not tons of malt backbone, but fair. Good, clean. Again , not big, but tasty.

Mouthfeel is light, but perfect for the style.

Overall, good clean, unobtrusive.

A- Very much like a macro lager, but a tad bit darker. When poured, it had a nice 1 finger head. Head was nice and foamy. Lots of white bubbles. Looked like it was gonna leave good amount of lacing.

S- WOW! This smell is huge here! Big grapefruit type juicy notes, a little pine, and some of that florally east coast style hop there. A tad sweet as well. It's gotta be a hop bomb. Smells awesome!

T- Very grapefruit juice forward, with a florally hop thing going on. It just takes like West Coast meets East coast in IPA type flavors. Sweet. Small amount of malt. This is just an intense hop bomb for sure!

M- Medium. It is crisp, clean, and refreshing. But in saying that, this beer isn't the easiest thing in the world to drink because of how hope forward it is. Finish isn't too long, nor is it short. After the finish, the beer dries out a great deal, but not so much that you get a cottonmouth type feel.

*Overall this beer reminded me of Ballast Point's Sculpin IPA, but even more hop forward. If you really like an intense IPA, or even a West Coast IPA as I do, I'd say give the Boulevard Mid-Coast IPA a try.

A - hazy golden-tangerine color with a rocky off-white head that holds excellent retention
S - bold piny hops fill the nose with grass, pineapple, biscuity grain
T - wicked bitter but very flavorful with plenty of pine and grassy hops, but at 100ibu there's not much balance. Some biscuity grain comes through, It's a bit fruity also with some pineapple
M - medium body, moderate carbonation
O - good but a bit overkill with the bitterness. It needs more of a malty sweetness to give it more than just a one-note shot of hops. One and done for me.

A - Pours a bright orangish yellow with a 2 finger white head. Excellent retention with lots of bubbles and carbination

S - Very heavy on the pine with a solid malty backbone. Shlight citrus aromas as well

T - Again, very heavy on the pine. Seems to have a grassy flavor as well. Undertones of apples. Malts a definately present.

M - Thick and creamy. Not as bitter as one might think at 100 IBU. Nicely balanced with a slight warming effect from the ABV

O - Another great beer from Boulevard. Great flavor. NOT a sessionable beer. Pretty stout

Smell
Right off the bat I got huge citrus smells ( grapefruit, mango, orange)
and a lot of pine. It's amazing! A lot of hoppyness to it very nice aromas

Taste
Getting a lot of citrus flavor especially the grapefruit and a lot of pine a little bitter but the ibu's is 104 I believe so it's not to bad for that

Mouth
Medium thickness with a dry finish, with good amount of carbonation.

Overall
I really enjoyed this beer with its bold flavors, not a session beer as its filling to me

Enjoy

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a nonic.

A: Deep golden hue. Pours a 2 finger, frothy, white head. Pervasive rising effervescence. Craters slowly, and unevenly; but never completely, leaving a thick foam blanket on the surface of the brew. Thick, dry beer ring lacing. Effervescence continues to rise throughout.

S: Pine cones, lemon, and hay.

T: Pine nuts, lemon zest, grapefruit pith, and tonic water.

M: Crisp, hearty, and syrupy. Very bitter, with a dry finish.

D: The character will dictate a sipping experience.

Atmosphere is excellent. Golden with a thick frothy head, continually rising effervescence, and plenty of lacing. Hay, pine, and citrus... and lots of it. Bitter pine, plenty of bitter lemon and grapefruit, and seltzer water kind of feel. Overall, this is a really good quaff.

Light pale gold with a slight haze. Trace of white foam. Some lacing. Smells lightly resinous a bit of citrus with a decent helping of caramel malt. Taste is citrus, orange and grapefruit rind, lightly pine resin. Nice dose of biscuity malt. Medium bitterness is nice. Medium body is lightly creamy and holds together well. Mild bitterness lingers. Finish is clean. Not the prettiest brew and smells mediocre a but really overall a nice drinkable moderately bitter, crisp beer with a light yet nice hop flavor.

Got in part of a 12 pack mixer.

A&S: Spider-web lacing, good head retention. Lively, translucent hazy yellow colored beer. Aroma isn't super pungent but consists of primarily lemon citrus with some grapefruit tones.

T&M: hop-heavy but not overwhelming. Mostly citrus hops with a bit of tropical fruit tones. Slight presence malty (almost rye-like) background. Mildly bitter semi-dry finish. Crisp feel, but not shape.

Overall: It was the best of the 12-pack, but nothing mind blowing. Better than I anticipated. Very drinkable.

Poured into a Smokestack Series tulip glass form a 12oz bottle.
Best By 12/10/2013

Pours a very pale golden color. Pretty translucent and clear. There is a nice half inch head that is nice and white. It is pretty dense and sticky and recedes down to a nice thin film at the top of the brew.

Aroma starts off citrusy as ever! Notes of tangerine and orange. Nice grapefruit rind and notes of citrus bitterness and acidity. There is also some nice grain in the background behind all the intense notes of hops. Grassy and herbal as well.

Flavor starts off intense and citrusy. Big pungent hop notes with some intense bitterness and palette destroying citrus notes. The brew gets more palatable as it warms but its still intense and hoppy. There is also more tropical fruit notes as it warms. SOme slight mango and pineapple. The finish is dry and abrasive. Good hoppy and refreshing IPA with a lighter body.

Pretty good take on the West coast style by the Midwest folk.

Bottle split with Hab11

A: Bottle pours into the glass a very hazy straw yellow color with a one finger head and lots of carbonation. This is the perfect way to start a warm Spring afternoon in the sunshine. Lots of haze and lingering, active fizziness.

S: Very hop forward. delicious smells come right out of the glass. Notes of citrus and passion fruit, lots of passion fruit. Smells like a glass of juice sitting in front of me. Can't wait to try it.

T: Balance is the best word I can use to describe this. Very refreshing brew. Lots of bitterness but not overpowering at all. Fruity. Bigger sips reveal lots of grapefruit. Can't find the ABV on the bottle; doesn't seem light but is very sessionable. Could drink this all day long.

M: Great carbonation. Definitely not too thin, not too heavy, fairly creamy. Great mouthfeel overall. Again, lots of balance in this beer.

Overall: Great brew to start off the day. Great sessionable beer that I am glad Boulevard decided to let the greater public have a try. Great balance on a pretty good beer. Would definitely drink again and would love to see Boulevard release into a more regular rotation with greater availability.

A Transparent amber. Thick foam. Good retention.

S Grassy, floral, and hoppy. Sharp peppery aroma. Nice fresh smell.

T Really floral and really hoppy. Greasy and bitter. And bitter. And bitter.

M Light to medium. Foamy and a bit sticky but nothing out of style.

O I really enjoyed this. In your face hops and bitterness. And not just some unbalanced piece of shit. This really tastes good. I didn't think Boulevard had it in them. Souped up! West coast all the way.

Up front honesty right here, I'm usually biased against high IBU beers (This one is 100+) and lingering bitter isn't really what I'm into right now.

But even with that, this was a good brew. All of the other surrounding characteristics are spot on and I'll admit I probably could have had another if the case wasn't out of them. It also doesn't feel like the bitter flavor continues to get stronger as you drink it either, so again, that plays in it's favor with me.

That's actually my biggest strike against this beer—you need to buy a 12 pack to get to it. I understand it helps get it out there in the market easier, but I feel bad for anyone who really likes the beer and wishes they could get more of it. :-)

Overall, a very good IPA that hop heads should really like.

Just being from the midwest, I found though comedy in the title of the beer - "mid-coast IPA." And yes, at 100 IBU's it is pretty nervy for a bunch of Kansas City kids.

The appearance is pretty spot on - golden yellow, white frothy head that's about a half an inch thick, dissipates slowly, and maintains its layer throughout the beer.

The nose is wonderful- young grapefruit, hops, green apple peel

Taste- 100 Ibu's of tasty. I've yet to overcome the dominating flavor of hops, but there's a touch of malt in there as well.

Overall, I'd buy this in a 6-pack. It's more straightforward than their 80-acre offering (which is also awesome) and I could find myself enjoying these over and over again. Definite recommend.

personal note: It came in a sample 12 pack, and it's the best sampler pack I've had to date.

12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a slightly hazy golden straw yellow with vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Nice spotty lacing on the glass ad the beer was drank.

Smell: Nice resiny, floral, and pungent tangerine and grapefruit. Some sweet pale and bready malts with a little bit of orange peel in there too.

Taste: Awesome pungent and resiny tangerine, citrus, and orange. Sweet pale and biscuity malts with mild lingering bitterness. Very tasty brew.

Mouthfeel: A bit smooth, chewy, mild lingering bitterness, light bodied, refreshing, crisp, very drinkable, and medium carbonation.

Overall: 104 IBU's? No way. Bitterness is actually reasonable and tolerable. Everything rolls together in this brew and I wish I had more. Let's hope this becomes a full time production brew.

Poured from a bottle out of their sample 12 pack...poured into a snifter. Cotton candy white, heavy foam head. A sticky, long lasting lace. Slightly hazy, light golden raw honey on the eyes.

The nose...Pine, grapefruit, lemon...the usual suspects for an IPA.

First drink...heavy carbonation combined with a nice creamy hop hit. The middle is very balanced, creamy sweet honey blends with the sweet and sour of the citrus making an incredibly smooth center. Then the bang...pine and grapefruit rind along with the hoppy 104IBUs creates a dry, clean and crisp finish...a slight bitter lingers on the tongue. It's says it is at 5.6% but I've only drank half my beer and it seems much more?

I'm really surprised at how good this is, wasn't expecting much but am pleasantly surprised. Great hoppy IPA that they call a tasting room only?...I'd bet the farm that this ends up becoming a regular Boulevard offering. Would definitely buy this in a six if they offered.

12oz. Bottle
American IPA
Reviewed w/ThreeLions.
Golden amber honey color, unfiltered and cloudy. Pine notes with a lemon zest undertone. Slight smell if citrus somewhere between orange and pink grapefruit.
Taste: the lemon and citrus comes through with the pine taste being a lesser taste. Also has a light simple syrup taste that comes through in the end.
Mouthfeel: Effervescent springs to life with the initial taste and finishes smooth and slightly creamy.
Overall maybe the best mass produced IPA I've had. I wish boulevard would make this as a staple instead of just in a sample pack.

Very nice IPA that reminds me some of Summit Saga...Oily hop aroma...pine combined with fresh citrus....thinking lemons...very fresh smelling...

The taste has a nice hop flavor to it....100 IBU's but not unbalanced....lemony citrus along with a tighter piney bitterness....this has some finishing bitterness to it but it is not unbalanced at all...

Body is light side of medium..

The more I drink the more the bitterness on the long finish becomes more pronounced in a good way...

Very solid IPA I may have to include in a big blind taster I have coming up...
