Notes/Commercial Description:
As a brewing team, we sought to make an India Pale Ale that showcased assertive hop flavor and aroma while maintaining a thirst-quenching drinkability by balancing the bitterness with a slight caramel malt character. A blend of our base pale, Marris Otter, and amber malts creates a simple, yet adequate malt backbone that allows Mosaic, Cascade, Amarillo, Citra, and Centennial hops to shine with bright, fruity, citrus notes. At 4.2% ABV and 41 IBUs, Pop-Up I.P.A. is a full flavored beer that’s suitable for all-day drinking.

Session IPA that tastes like an IPA. There is a juiciness to the beer. The hops are lively and the mouthfeel is extraordinary. Not overly bitter or malty, but very nice all the same. Plus you can drink a ton of these and not pass out. Love that 4% ABV. Good job Blvd.

Poured into a Boulevard tulip glass.

Look: Slightly hazy golden orange color. A white head recedes to a light wisp with world map lacing on the glass.

Aroma: Pine, citrus, and faint fruity sweetness.

Taste: A beautiful blend of piny hops, citrus rind bitterness, and some muted apricot-peach sweetness from malts.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light in weight.

Overall: Delicious, great balance and flavor for only 4.2% ABV.

Great session ale, flavor falls off a little too soon though. Still, another Boulevard great!

A laid back hop aroma, expected a little more punch to the nostrils though

Nice hoppy start, but the flavor falls off too soon. Still delicious, just was expecting a little more of a punch.

Smooth all the way through, great carbonation

Overall, great session ale. Boulevard fails to disappoint.

A golden straw color and a moderate to light head of foam greet you when you pour Pop Up Session IPA into a glass. The juicy, fruity nose whets the appetite and the foam does leave some lacing as you drink.

Moving to the taste, it is fruity, but not excessively so and not as tropical- fruity as the nose leads you to believe. There are tropical fruit flavors, but they are not over the top in any way. Mixed in with the tropical fruity notes are some citrus, floral notes, and some pale, biscuit- like malts and pine. The beer is balanced without the level of bitterness often associated with an IPA that has such a fragrant nose.

This is a more session- oriented IPA than most others and it makes a good choice when you want to enjoy an IPA, but want something a little lighter, less alcoholic, and more thirst- quenching. This product has all of those qualities and while its lightness could turn some people off, it is a good beer when consumed for its intended purpose.

Pours gold with a little haziness and covered with a nice, thick, fluffy head. A lumpy, soapy cap lasts for the duration and leaves behind chunky clusters of lacing. Fresh, bright, green hops in the nose meet a light sugar cookie maltiness. Grassy, zesty, oily, and citrusy with notes of pine and lime. The flavor has a more subdued hop presence while upping the cereal malts for some balance. Lemon, grapefruit, hay, and tea mingle with dry crackers. Very crisp, light, and poundable. Not as hoppy as DayTime, which seems to be my go-to "session IPA" as of late, but a very pleasant, well-made easy drinker that I could definitely see myself buying again.

Light gold beer, very clear, and medium sized quickly fading, sticky white head. Aroma is bright miscellaneous fruits, floral, and citrus. Quite pleasant, easy going, and fresh. Taste is extra clean and seemingly simple. Flavors are lemon, orange, lightly herby, flowery, evenly fruity, and faintly tea-like over a soft light sugar cookie (w/out the sugar) malt base. Simple, delicate arrangement of happy things with light bitterness. Mouthfeel is slick and smooth with light body. Very sessionable/extremely drinkable. Mission accomplished here. A very friendly amicable beer.

12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a pale yellow with some haziness and good vision of bubbles coming up through the glass.

Smell: A nice floral bouquet of tangerine, tropical, and grapefruit hops followed by pale and pilsner malts.

Taste: Citrus and tropical with the pale and bready malts. Nice mild tingly bitterness in the rear.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, low to medium carbonation, a little chewy, smooth, and a little mild bitterness

Overall: This beer is on the same lines as Founders All Day IPA. I will be enjoying more of this and the other more often.

Best buy 04/24/2014.

A- Poured a hazy light golden yellow from a 12oz short bottle to a snifter. Fills up the top of the snifter with a creamy, thick white head to just over two fingers. Head retention is pretty nice and it eventually falls to a ring and thick pillow in the center. Thick lace clouds at the top with nice spots following down the glass.

S- Mostly hops in an aroma not quite like stronger IPAs but still quite a bit of citrus, tropical fruits and some floral hints. Slight balance of yeast bread and light malts. Fades a bit with time.

T- Seems to lost a bit of the hop pungency from the aroma but hops are still in the forefront. Hops bring floral notes, tropical fruit like mango, a good deal of lemony citrus rind and just a bit of pine. Lightest bit of yeast and cracked grain influences are just enough to balance and clean overall.

MF- Fairly fizzy higher end carbonation level in a light overall body. Texture is just a tiny bit on the silky side with a light bitterness in the finish. Could use a bit more creaminess, feels slightly too fizzy eventually.

Seems like a good start and is actually nice for a large scale session IPA. There are brews from smaller producers that pack much more of a hop punch than this and are spectacular examples of a "session IPA." Hop flavors are nice and there is nothing wrong but it just lacks the edge that could make it more than good.
