Copperish amber with a full beige head, good carbonation, and slight lace. Light roasty malt aroma and light toasty malt flavor. Good balance; not too sweet. Overall very mild but quaffable. Medium bodied and smooth.

A really nice Irish session ale.

Picked this one up as part of a mixed 6 pack.

Bottle poured into a shaker glass.

A- Not as clear as other reds I've had. Deep amber with a chunky one finger almond head. Decent retention and some lacing.

S- Sweet and roasted malts. Over all kind of earthy.

T- Roasted caramel pretty much dominates this one. If there is other flavors in there I cant tell.

M- Medium bodied, stickier than I expected.

D- Could be a good session brew for me I think except for the stickiness. Probably wouldnt have more than 2 in a sitting. But over all a pretty good red.

Label Literature Lore Learned: Roasted malt aroma brewed with lightly roasted malts and the finest Hallertau hops. OG 13.0 Plato. IBUs: 19. Best before: Completely illegible dots. Green, not brown, bottle.

Poured into a pint with a quickly dissolving head that settled to a thing off-white ring over a hazy ruddy reddish brown russet pour lacking carbonation.

Huge malty sugary bouquet like my nose fell into a barley wine.

Toned down root beer barrel candy flavors. Hops are creeping up but they do not get far. A tacky cloying aftertaste finishes off this one trick pony.

Syrupy feel that coats me tongue to the point that other flavors are burried in a shallow grave.

Would not care for another. The over drinkability is low due to the sticky sugary characteristics.

Last swigs: A wandering red ale that isn't sure if it is a doublebock or a red. A bit over the top with the malt characteristics. The hops are beaten down and overwhelmed. Thanks to fellowBA Shapudding for the bottle.

Beer is good. Happy beering.

Surprisingly hazy for a red... Amber, homemade iced tea colored with some white head that was gone so freakin quick. teensy ring of white creamy bubbles and slight clouding left. Nice musty scent, sour and matly. The aroma was better than I would have expected from a red. Bit of hops in the background. Low carb, slightly creamy almost, nice. Almost feels thickish. Flavors are fairly balanced and melow. Bit of roasted malts.. some hops in the background, but nothing to write home about. Not too much else really jumpin out at me, granted I just had a freaking Uni a bit ago... so that can skew things! But this is just nice and mellow and drinkable. Smooth and easy, nice session.

Tawny amber body with a nice tan head with good lacing. The nose is very full of malt and little else. The taste follows suit with it being mostly of malt flavors without being overly sweet so it must be well balanced. Good creamy mouthfeel and crisp in the end. Good drinkability and this could easily be session worthy.

This was quite a tasty brew. A nice reddish color. The smell was very malty. It almost smelled like a porter. The taste was all malt. Very tasty. There was barely a head, so it lacked in the apperance aspect but everything else was very good. Definitely should be a regular for any amber beer lover.

Acquired via trade. It pours a deep orange amber with a bit of chill haze and a light beige head that retains about 1/2 inch. Nice cereal aroma on this brew, backed a light malt smell. Caramel malt is most prominent in the taste with a healthy dose of either Munich or Vienna malt. Not cloying, just a nice blend of sweet and toasted malts. Hops provide balance only. Medium-bodied mouthfeel. Very nicely done.

I worked in a brewery, and when I cracked this baby open, I was standing in the grain room seperating the specialty malts. The vibrant amber red, with a beige toned head that disipates quickly. I don't even know if I want to take a sip yet, because the aroma of the roasted malts are awesome. A great fill up my senses with sweet maltiness, what a crisp finish. Very enjoyable, with a great body and fullnesst with each sip. Another great beer from the people at Crooked River. If you haven't tried their ESB yet, you are definitely missing out. With this beer you could literally replace your wheaties in the morning. Awesome!!!

Chilidog sent me two of these bad boys, and I had dramatically different experiences with my two bottles. The first one, I drank after a long day screwing around with this and that, and it was the first beer of the evening. I didn't review it that night, but at the time, I thought that it was one of the greatest beers I'd ever had--so smooth and malty, with that touch of roasted barley to give it the creamiest mouthfeel imaginable. I couldn't wait to get online and give it all 5's. The second time (tonight), Irish Red tastes more like it's individual ingredients than a well made beer.

The body has a great color--brilliant fall orange--like a 70's kitchen, though there's a bit of chill haze that never goes away... The head is non-existent and the aroma smells exactly like a homebrew store--sweet, fresh ground malt is in the air... What was, the first time, a snapshot of smooth, balanced, malty beauty, tastes tonight more like honey bread and malt extract. It's still very appealing, but it just doesn't have quite the je ne se quoi (sp? my French is a little rusty) that it did upon first taste. Crooked River nailed the body, but there's the faintest hint of oxidation adding to that smoothness--like sherry a little bit.. Hmmm, I wonder if the difference between these two samples was the amount of oxygen in my beer. That would help to explain the changes quite a bit. I'm gonna split the difference between my two impressions and hope for an opportunity to try this one again--it was just SO good the first time!!!!

Tasted at the Barrelhouse Brewing Company Microbrew Fest on November 9. This was a great beer to end the evening with. Crooked River's beers seem to be hit-or-miss a lot of times but this is definitely one of the better ones. I can see keeping this one stocked for myself and for company. Reddish-orange with a medium light beige head. Malty aroma. Malt character is just enough that it is not syrupy or overly sweet. I really enjoyed this.

Very deep amber with a reddish cast and a creamy light-tan colored head that drops quickly but otherwise holds well. The aroma is of a somewhat fruity and sweetish, lightly earthy, dark caramel malt. The body is medium with a restrained carbonation giving it a nicely creamy mouthfeel. The flavor reflects the aroma with a fruity, semi-sweet dark caramel maltiness that shows some hop flavor as it crosses the palate and lingers in the aftertaste. Definitely balanced toward maltiness, although it's not "sweet". Enjoyable with a very nice malt character.

Great fruity aroma is noticed first as you pour this ruby-red/burnt-orange colored brew. A nice cream like off-white head with good lace through-out also. The taiste is more malt than hop making this a very taste-worthy drink. Great with the grille.

This beer certianly looked like a red as it poured; reddish and hazy. A malty smell dominated at first, and the first sip was cleary malt. A touch of bitterness in the aftertaste that defines this beer as a red. Hops are present, and makes this beer very fresh tasting. As malty as it is, the bitterness is the key. Smooth and even a little fruity. A good summer beer to try out when grilling.

Very tasty malty brew with an emphasis on caramel. Mouthfeel is outstanding, the beer seems to expand in your mouth. So smooth and clean, I'd say it was a lager in a blind test if it weren't for the ever so slight fruity esters.

Hazy brown color. Sweet/sour start, going more tart in the middle. Finished with a good balance of hops bittering. A little more malty than most reds, almost Scottish.
