i go to Duluth quite frequently...canal park is one of my favorite area's to visit as is old chicago..its always crowded but we are always seated in a reasonable time..the food is well its old Chicago wings.pizza,burgers.calzones and beer what do you expect?..we were there during ocktoberfest and had ayinger and bells, then had some odells ipa and surly furious..always a great choice of brews on hand both tap and bottled here with so many to have the service is good with how crowded the restaurant/bar is..love canal park atmosphere like the brews available here and the food..this is a cant miss/lose place both for atmosphere, food, and brew

We were promptly greeted at the door, and offered our choice of bar or dining room -- we chose the former, as for some reason this location left me with the distinct impression of being particularly gigantic upon first site! That's probably due to the fact that I no longer get out to sports bars very often (unless you count Grumpy's in Roseville...), but it's a nice, big place anyway, with plenty of seating and plenty of young men and families enjoying a Twins game on the T.V. along with their holiday afternoon. We were really only in there 'cuz it was close to the shore, and we wanted to go freeze our butts off at Park Point...
In between innings they cranked the tunes a bit: 90s hits were playing intermittently over the PA (satellite radio?) and for some reason the Venga Boys popped-on inbetween Pearl Jam and Gin Blossoms: weird. Not weird enough to put me off my Schell's Hefeweissen of course, nor my BBQ Chipotle Chicken salad, which was frankly better than I'd expected.
Our bartender was busy busy busy, and had he paid us any more attention he'd have missed out on some sales and tips elsewhere in the expanded bar area, but I could've used a water (or another beer . . . burp!) at some point.
The beer selection was good here, perhaps the best of the OC locations I've visited to date. Combined with the food choices and happy hour prices this place would rate pretty well overall, even comparable to a few beer bars I can think of in The Cities. I even saw Chimay Red being poured into appropriate, branded glassware! Other branded glassware was available (as were the iced-down mugs), but the Chimay struck me as a notch above average for a corporate chain, and I saw plenty of branded glassware for Stella being hoisted . . .
This OC is worth a visit if you're thirsty and looking for a better-than-average selection of beer during your visit to the tourist trap known as the Canal Park district. But with Fitgers and the Thirsty Pagan nearby, along with two Irish Pubs, the Anchor Bar, Sir Benedict's, and new brewpubs popping up all over the region, there are such a great many choices that you'll be just as fortunate should you choose to find your beer-y fortunes elsewhere.

Lets just roll down the list.
Atmosphere: Its a family restaurant in the heart of the tourist district. Don't expect anything spectacular. Pretty much only thing I like about the atmosphere is the network trivia. If that disappeared, so would I. When the restaurant closes and its just the bar, its more of a "Come with people you know and chat with them" atmosphere instead of a place to mingle and meet new people. House radio is pretty mild, and the TouchTunes jukebox is neutered to only be safe music best that I could tell.
Service: Staff is friendly. Though during peek hours they can get stretched thin making trips between server visits lengthy.
Selection: Probably the widest in the city. (Sir Benedicts may be more), just don't expect to get anything you order in a bottle to come with glassware. But we all know how sucking a Duvel strait from the bottle neck and totally bypassing that beautiful Meringue-like head is better any ways right? In the case that you do ask for a glass, expect nothing less then their finest frost coated mug. The number of choices on the taps are plentiful, and is always rotating with seasonal brews.
Food: I've never really been anything more then content with what I've ordered ever since my first visit in 1999. Its ok, but never seems to be justified by the price. Especially when I can walk for ten minutes, be at Fitger's Brewhouse, and have a meal that is five times better, at the same cost.
Bottom Line: The 10-12 happy hour is best time to go. All appetizers prices are cut in half, and are probably the best food they serve. Cost of taps comes down, and there is a wide enough selection on tap to stay happy.
