A - opaque burnt orange, with a thick creamy white head made of large bubbles. Champagne like bubbles originating from the bottom of my goblet, adding to the uneven head.

S - nothing particularly special here, but what is most noticible is that there is no overpowering smell of alcohol; just a bit of hops or some sort of plant material, let's say it has a slight 'grassiness' to it. aside from that there is a distinct fruitiness to the aroma which is most enticing, though mostly through its lissome appearance.

T - Well, where to start. Nothing really jumps out at me for this beer; though I must say the frutiness stays with me with an added dimension of spice. Nice, very nice. not much of an alcohol taste for the 9% beating I was expecting.

MF&D - thick when I take anything in; a small layer of head, I imagine, forms a the top of my mouth. a true medium weight feel, not too heavy. I believe this sort of body to the beer compliment the light taste in a great way.

33cl bottle (06/2016) into a tulip. Pale golden yellow color. Big fluffy white head with good lacing and ok retention, settled to a thin lacy foam. On the nose sweet bready malts, earthy yeast and some fruit and citrus. Tasted of sweet bready malts and pepper. Finished dry with slight hop bitterness and a long lasting peppery taste. Became sweeter as it warmed up. Medium-light mouthfeel with stingy carbonation. No alcohol taste. Not the best tripel i've tasted but not bad.

Slightly different than a lot of others in the style, this resembles Duvel with its clear golden color. It's not a bright gold, more of a faded dingy gold, but doesn't have the same orange hues a lot of other Belgians do. The head is thick and retains well. Extremely bright white color. Foamy. Thick lace gradually slides down the glass leaving a heavy spotting.

Classic for the style with plenty of pear, green apple, green grape and pepper spice all vying for attention. Smells a bit sweeter that others. Slightly bready, but malts and hops take a back seat.

Champagne notes. Pear and pepper fight for control. Bready, but also some malt hints appear. Hops are merely a bit player. Alcohol makes a cameo late.

Something is lacking. It needs a bit more body for something so strong. Not really light bodied, but not quite medium either. Carbonation is strong in the finish, but the beer feels a bit flat up front. Spicy finish, and it seems the hops finally show with some savory bits near the swallow.

Good, but not great. Has most of the Belgian bases covered, just a rough spot here or there prevents it from being world class like many of its breathren.

Brasserie Des Géants' Goliath, Belgian Tripel. 9% ABV.

A: Very active carbonation. Two fingers of head, with big bubbles. Fades fairly quickly. Slightly-amber yellow with tons of tiny grey flecks. Almost clear in the dimple.

S: Straw/hay. Faint citrus. Slight sweetness.

T/MF: Well carbonated. Bitter grassy flavor. Hoppy bitterness towards the back.

Really, I do not see what people see in this beer. It seems like more of a hop head's tripel.

Poured from a 750mL bottle, into a Belgian tulip glass.
