Beer sensory characteristics: A creamy, compact head crowns the glass. Brilliant, delicately pearled with bubbles, and golden yellow; it captivates the eye of the true connoisseur. The aroma is lightly reminiscent of flowering hops. The body is pure, mild, discretely aromatic, coupled with a slight sweetness. The finish is soft, with a hint of maltiness. A lager that awakens the desire to drink it again and again. Mahrs Bräu Hell pairing recommendation: to cooked or fried fish dishes, salads, mild cheeses, stews.

This one was drunk in the Wohmostellplatz (campervan parking ground) beside Brauereigasthof Reichold in Hochstahl in Bavaria in September 2023. This was after a full day of hiking on the brewery trail, accompanied by a beautiful sunset, overlooking freshly ploughed fields and stands of trees in the distance. Full marks for ambience, but I was too stuffed to write a decent review!

L: Crystal clear golden with a thin, white head and small amounts of carbonation.

S: Sweet bread, floral hops, marzipan, fresh dough.

T: As per nose. Very nice, very refreshing.

M: Mild and soft.

O: I was exhausted after a long day. The beer tasted like liquid gold as a result, but I have tempered my score in the cold, hard light of the next day!

Cheers!

A decent beer. Very drinkable. On the malty side and carbonation is nice. However, the sweetness is somewhat on the caramel side, which is not what I would expect from helles. Not the most interesting helles. Good overall.

330 ml can, as Mahrs Bräu Helles Vollbier, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 4.9%. Clear pale golden colour, large to moderate white head. Sweetish aroma of pilsener malts and floral hops. The flavour is also slightly sweet and malty, with moderate herbal hops in the finish.

Can from Market of Choice. Canned 13 Sept 2019.

A clear golden orange with a dense, white head with good retention and lacing this looks great. The first whiff is buttery and rough, which is surprising. Also present is a really raw, grainy, doughy sweetness, almost wort-like. Soft, lemony hops, mildly earthy, are present. The palate opens soft and creamy, and again, unfortunately buttery. This, coupled with a very raw grain character, makes this beer seem a lot more unrefined than other samples I've had in the past. A touch of rough sweetness is present. Mildly sweet on the finish, this beer is light in body and softly carbonated. Creamy on the palate with a delicate sweetness, this is solid. Bitterness is a little light on the palate.

Pours a clear dark yellow with fine, soft head.

Smell is bready and floral with notes of citrus and some caramel and butter.

Taste is very clean and crisp. Bready and floral with notes of rye and citrus. Soft bitterness and a slightly dry finish.

Mouthfeel is thin to medium, well carbonated.

Overll, this is about as good as a Helles gets.

Mostly clear gold with a finger of white foam, decently carbonated. Very floral in the nose, with bready malts, honey, and slight grass on the finish. Taste is floral forward as well, but the malts and slight hops compliment well with flavors of fresh baked bread, wet grass, honey, bagel, and a faint stream of caramel underneath it all. Feel is springy, bready, and somewhat crisp. Goes great with pretzels and mustard. The wife loved it

Bottled on 1/21/19

Pours a clear gold body with multiple fingers of pillowy white froth; great retention leaves a paper-thin cap along with a consistent layering of moderate lacing.

Aroma is deeply grassy, and touched with a floral undercurrent of spicy biscuit and honeysuckle in the background; light yeast adds a certain musty character to round what is at times a surprisingly intense bouquet.

Taste brings out more yeasty biscuit, while the grassy notes become more leveled as they reassert over the mid-palate; sweet malt presence evens lightly bittering hops into the finish.

Mouthfeel has a light medium body with moderate-high carbonation; a smooth, slight grit builds to inform a bright crispness to a balanced, quiet finish.

Intense but balanced display of sweet malts and bitter, floral hops without sacrificing any bit of quaffability; a highly enjoyable and easily sessioned Helles in every aspect.
