A: Pours a clear golden yellow with a tight, bubbly white head.

S: Aromas of straw, grass, grain, wax, honey, lemon, biscuit, crackers, and mild herbs are present on the nose.

T: Gentle notes of minerals, herbs, beeswax, honey, grass, straw, grain, lemon, biscuits, and crackers slowly fill the mouth. The finish is clipped, yet flavorful with a great integration of biscuit, herb, lemon, and honey flavors.

M: Fairly full in body, at least for the style, yet not all that dry. Carbonation is delicate and airy, imparting near effortless ease in drinking.

O: A superb German lager and a wonderful, authentic representation of a classic and often underappreciated style.

.5L bottle:

The beer poured a clear golden color that produced big, light, white head that was very well retained, which settled into a thin cap for the duration of the beer. The beer had a good aroma to it, sweet malt with a hint of lemon and spice. The taste of the beer was just as good, if not better, and exactly what I would think of for this style. Nice balance with just a slight edge to the malt and still with that hint of lemon. The beer had a light body to it. The beer was clean, crisp smooth and extremely easy to drink. I could drink this all of the time.

I've had this a few times now, updating from a 3.5 'Had' score.

500ml bottle pours to a pint glass a very light orange/dark yellow color. Decent retention and lace.

Lots of baked bread and pilsner-y malts with some grassy and earthy tones and light fruitiness as well. Decent strength, solid.

Taste follows suit nicely. Grains and toasted bread mostly with light sweetness, decent hop presence of grass, herbal, floral, light fruitiness. Really nothing for off-flavors which is nice for this type of lager.

Very full, nice malty mouthfeel, carbonation is maybe a bit low for the style but ample, nice crispness to it and some hop bitterness.

I think freshness is definitely key for this beer, I've had some 'meh' bottles and I've had great ones, this particular one falls in the latter category. Nice straight up lager that's stellar all around, definitely sessionable, the 500ml size is nice but I'd love to see this in 6-packs.

The "bottled on" space on the label is blank!

A: Clear, clean, golden-straw-yellow with a big, fluffy, pillowy, bright white head leaving behind a bit of lace and retention.

S: Lots of sweet and sugary malt with a hint of hops. Spot-on for the style!

T: So damn smooth, clean, crisp, and delicious! Everything I expected from this long-awaited drinking experience.

M: Carbonation is good. Body is great. Finish is superb.

O: Wish I had another bottle. This is seriously good stuff. I'm a huge fan of the style and this is up there with Schlenkerla. I could drink endless amounts of this delicious lager!

500 ml bottle poured into pilsener glass.

A - Looks like a lager. Yellow with a somewhat thin head. I expect this beer wasn't exactly fresh, as there was very little carbonation, and the head dissipated very quickly.

S - A light amount of sweet malts, lager dankness, and a slight bit of hops. Spicy-ish hops, not fruity. Good smelling lager.

T - Kind of disappointed. This may be due to the beer not being too fresh, as it's among the top rated Munich Helles' here at BA. The slightly sweet malts are noted up front, along with a small amount of hops and yeast. The aftertaste is pleasant, and I notice a bit of black pepper. Most likely from spicy hops. Overall, not a bad tasting Helles, but I'm disappointed, as it's my favorite style, and I wasn't huge on this stuff. Similar to Weihenstephaner Original: rated highly, but I'm not a huge fan of.

F - Refreshing and crisp as a lager should be, but not refreshing in the way that my favorite Helles' make me want to take a long sip over and over do. I could certainly see drinking this on a hot day or on the golf course, though.

O - Not a bad beer, but I am disappointed. One of the best rated beers of this style (which happens to be my favorite), but nothing makes me want to purchase again. I would gladly try again if found somewhere cheaper (paid $5.49 for this 500 ml bottle - not worth it at all), but in the end, there are many better (and cheaper) Helles lagers. It's worth a try for lager fans.
