Poured nicely; perfect head-to-body ratio. After letting it breathe a second, I tilted the glass, took a sip, and...

...BANG-O, what ballsy carbonation this has. It's like a bock/seltzer blend. The taste, once you get beyond the tongue-seering bubbles, is predominately sweet bock, but the wheat really comes out in the aftertaste and is almost metallic in nature. If nothing else, it gets points for being unique. I don't know if I'm going to come back to this one too often, but my mind is frantically searching for the perfect food pairing, because something as bold as this must have a soul mate.

It’s fucked up that this will be the last of this that I will have for some time due to Shelton bros closing. (Shelton bros imported this beer, imported a lot of things but shut down recently). I found this by chance in amherst mass, I bought it only because I love mahr’s brau Au ungrspundet lager. This is a nice savory fucker, showing some age (soy sauce sweetness) but with a trim body and cleansing hops still coming through. Big smoky bacon notes, it is going well with the smoked salmon I’m having along with it. Mahr’s brau is a special one to me, so I am biased (and not particularly
Familiar with this exact style) but this is a perfectly nice dark smoky (but not smooooky) product

3-2019 vintage.

Noticed a slight tang in the initial taste along with biscuit and nice malt sweetness. There is a bit of bright, dark fruit present and a nice mouthfeel and aftertaste.

Pours a dark brownish black color. Clear when held to the light, but the darkness of the malts leave it appearing opaque otherwise. Two to three finger head dissipates ultimately leaving no residual head behind.

Aroma has notes of clove, cinnamon, wheat, banana, and bready malts.

Taste is remarkable for the strong banana and bubble gum notes - it presents like a banana bread beer, but there are certainly notes of bubblegum, clove and cinnamon cascading through this one.

Feel is full bodied with a smooth slick feel to it. Moderate carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

Overall its a really nice beer. Personally I don't enjoy the examples that tend towards the banana/bubblegum rather than the clove, but this one was well done and really a nice beer.

500 ml botlle, as Mahrs Bräu Weisser Bock, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7.2%. Slightly hazy deep brown colour, large off-white to beige head. Aroma of banana, caramel, brown bread, a hint of cloves. Fizzy mouthfeel. Slightly sweet flavour of brown bread with some caramel, hints of banana and cloves. Minimal hops. Not bad, but I hoped for something even better.

Pours a deep brown-reddish color with a nice big top of frosty white head that dissolves slowly. Aroma is of banana, dark fruits, dark bread, roasted malts, caramel and some spices. The taste is starting of sweet with notes of dark matured fruits, while the backs has good notes of roasted malts, bread and caramel. Good balance in the flavours, but gets a little flat in the finishing with a weak aftertaste. Fizzy carbonation with a medium body. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth.
All in all is a good weizenbock, but it lacks that little extra.

Bottle from Belmont Station. Dark brown with small foamy head. Aroma is dark bread, bananas. Taste is more of the great weizen flavors, malty, banana bread. Nice feel with a little oomph.

Poured from an undated bottle into the test glass.
A - Deep dark, gently carbonated, quick to exit cap
S - Toffee, dark roasted malts, a touch of smokiness
T - Follows the nose right down the line
F - A bit slick, full coating of the palate, sweet linger
O - A fine offering, that confounds a bit, I will seek out again

I am kind of everywhere today in terms of beers, or should I say, biers. The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody continues to belch forth all sorts of things & I am happy to indulge.

From the bottle: "Brewed and bottled in Bamburg, Germany".

I am learning from exbeerience that these may be unfiltered beers. That revelation, coupled with the fact that it is getting late & I am tired & do not want to clean up a mess, signals a gentle pour following the Pop! of the cap. Once sufficiently decanted, a vigorous in-glass swirl raised a brief finger of foamy, light-tan head that quickly reverted to wisps. Color was a gorgeous Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with ruby highlights & NE-quality clarity. Nose had a smoky cheesiness, like smoked Gouda, that left me unsure of what to expect next. Hey, I am nothing if not adventurous. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was not cheesy, per se, but it was definitely smoky with a chocolaty undertone. The more I drank of it, the more chameleonic it seemed. I would occasionally get banana esters, but then they would recede. The smoky cheesiness returned & disappeared in the next sip. I then got a glimpse of dark, dried fruits, but then they were gone. This is one for the books! Finish was in that Twilight Zone between semi-dry & semi-sweet. Wow! What a beer. I wonder if I have any St. Augustinus (sp?) remaining ...
