Pre-gaming for a German beer tasting with, well, a German beer. 500ml pours into a mug straw-yellow with a thin and quickly dissipating white head.

Very clean pilsner. While there's no weird adjuncty off-flavors at all, the smell and taste do come off as sorta weak, but pleasant enough. Nice lager-y flavors of toasted grains, buttery bread, and maybe a touch of caramel sweetness. Little bit of floral and spicy noble hops coming through. Mouthfeel is very smooth with a great body for the low ABV and style. Maybe could use more carbonation.

Solid no-frills pils, nothing too exciting flavor-wise going on but definitely smooth and nice and easy to drink. Pairs fine with some spicy soup on an almost-fall afternoon.

Look: Pours with light (medium bubbles), large, white head. Good, slow retention (breaks down with bigger bubbles). Leaves a solid, thick layer, stays for the whole ride. Huge amount of carbonation, lots of tiny bubble chains. Clear and golden, as it should.

Smell: Hay that goes floral with some light citrus, grassy touch. Soft pale malt sweetness with some bitter honey notes. A bit peppery. Pleasant and fresh.

Taste: Hay goes to light pale bread, biscuit malt sweetness and continues into spicy floral hop notes that transform at the end into a spike of medium noble hop bitterness with very light biscuit, herbal honey sweetness. Very light zesty sourness and earthy notes. A fun ride for a pilsner.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, sharp high carbonation, light body and dry. Makes you drink it fast.

Overall: Good pilsner representative, fun and complex enough, still pleasant and fresh.

Bottle shipped fresh from the brewery, best buy date 5 months out, so a 4 week old beer.

For those of you who gave this beer a low rating (under 4.0) ,either 1) you didn't get a fresh bottle and missed out on most of the subtle flavors herein and therefore your review isn't valid IMO, or 2) you have horrible taste, or 3) stay away from rating Pils beers if you are DIPA-lover or hop-head.

Aroma:
Some Pils malt aroma and Noble hops, bu I have to swirl it to get it really popping. Mahrs' is also a tad sweeter in aroma, less rich deep bread-like malty smell.

Flavor:
Mahrs Bräu's Pilsner is good, bready, more like fresh toast. The front has some bitterness but it's in the middle of the tongue where all the giant bitter notes pop out. I've never had a beer where the middle was bitterer than the front of the tongue. On the sides, some Pils malts but not so sweet, again bready. In the back, mmm :) the Pils malt sweetness and a nice blast of caramel. In the aftertaste, more sweet Pils malts but also a bite of sharp bitterness to bring back a balance. I has very slight metallic taste, maybe not exactly metallic, but something in that direction near the end, too. Overall, very balanced and wonderful.

Mouthfeel:
Wonderful, the thickness you expect in a Franken beer, cozy, süffig.

Overall:
The Mahrs is most balanced and managed to get caramel flavors in the mix, too.
I love the Mahrs Pils for just being the goldilocks of sweet Pils malts and hoppiness, and finding a way to incorporate hints of caramel into a Pils.
