Alaskan Oatmeal Stout, Rogue pint glass
Appears very nearly opaque, possibility of shade of red at the bottom of the glass. This beer poured with nearly no head but appears very carbonated. Minimal lacing.
On the nose its decidedly roasty and coffee like. Maybe the faintest bit of charred wood and some smoke. Dark malts.
On first taste the carbonation attacks the palette and dominates the initial mouthfeel. The roastyness hits your tongue, and some bittersweetness and chocolate notes. Coffee is dominant, followed by some bitterness.
Overall this beer isn't as good as I remember. The mouthfeel seems off, especially the carbonation levels, and the flavors are not unique or complex. It does go down fairly easily but that doesn't make it a good beer.
Might have to buy another bottle in a while and see if this experience was normal.
