Richly malty and long on the palate, with just enough hop backing to make this beautiful amber colored "alt" style beer notably well balanced.

On-tap at Venice Ale House, Venice, CA

A: The beer is clear dark reddish amber in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white head that left lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of grainy and toasted malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste is relatively malty and has flavors of toasted malts with notes of grain. No sweetness is perceptible. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite malty but there are enough underlying hops so it isn't rendered undrinkable. It doesn't seem to have all of the complexity as German altbiers.

While on a cruise in Alaska, visited the brewery, and sampled all of the beers on the tour. The Amber was my second favorite. Brewed with no preservatives, so can not get in New England.

A: Pours an amber color, 1 finger head that does not last long.

S: Malty smell, very pleasant.

T: Malty taste with a slight bitterness, and aftertaste to it.

M: Some carbonation, and aftertaste that lingers on.

O: Above average beer, but I like the Alaskan IPA better.

Had on tap at Elliots in Seattle. Nice frozen glass. Outside of the glass, I was very underwhelmed. Copper appearance, no head, little lacing. I smelled...and smelled...nothing. A malty chemically type of taste. Went down well, more of a large consumer type of taste which is fine if I can get 30 of them for $20. I was expecting more, don't know why. Hate writing reviews like this, but this disappointed.

A pinkish red amber in color, thin pinkish white head, left quickly,
S sweet malty, hint of salty
T sweet, bready, "beery"
M lots of carbonation, malty bready after taste lingers in roof of mouth.
O Pretty standard/vanilla (un-unique) amber, not too special, but not bad. Had on tap at the Big Fish in Grapevine Texas.

On tap at Flying Saucer Houston.

My wife picked this up after speaking with the waitress. She ended up getting two pints of it. I was able to drink most of the second pint.

Really easy to drink. Low alcohol content. Absolutely no bitterness. A very smooth, great tasting beer in my opinion.

I'm going to pick up a six pack soon to have some in a bottle around the house. A really good beer.

Pours a clear amber color with an off-white head. Sweet toffee and caramel malt aroma. A touch of bread, sweet grape, and a little bit of red fruit. Maybe a hint of banana. Sweet malt and grape on the palate. Toffee malt, a little bit of toasted bread, and some red fruits. Minimal hoppiness, just a little bit of floral hop character.

A - Slightly more than a fingers worth of dense egg shell colored froth... A vibrant slightly glowing amber color... Moderate carbonation throughout... 100% translucent... A slight bit of lacing clings to the glass...

S - Fairly mundane... Pale malt wort... A slight nuttiness... A slight herbal spiciness...

T - Crystal malts... Lots of biscuit and bread... Diacytel... Toffee... Butter scotch... Light caramel... A slight hop bite...

M - Light to medium bodied... Brisk carbonation... Clean and crisp... Smooth...

D - A solid Altbier, a style that I wish had more representation in the craft beer market... Simple... Low ABV... Well executed... Rather quaffable... Easy drinking... Sessionable...

A - Pours copper colored with minimal lacing and a slight foam on top. Fairly average looking. Clarity is decent.

S - Smells of fresh wheat and brown sugar.

T - Flavors seemed mild. Some initial sweetness of sugar gave way to a grainy taste. A bit of caramel flavor was felt too.

M - Solid session beer that does not overwhelm you. Enough complexity to make it enjoyable.

O - Didn't really enjoy this one. And a bit disppointed because I've heard good things about Alaskan Brewing. It is an ok altbier; just not a preference for me.

Another classic always on @ the Conway Tavern...

Poured into a standared pint glass, dark brown in colour, thin tan head... smell/taste is roasted malt, quite thin on the palet.. very tasty/easy drinking and worth your time... just not very exciting. should be very easy to track down at any store/gas sation here in the PNW.

A lightish amber with a decent enough head, though nothing to write home about.Aroma is on the sweet, bready side you'd expect from an amber, but not aggressively sweet. Taste is a very balanced malt sweetness with some clean but mild hoppines. Medium bodied, somewhat creamy but still nicely carbonated. A very nice, sessionable amber.

Appearance: Fairly average for an amber. Decent foam, but not much lacing, and very little carbonation. More on the orange side, rather than red or brown.

Smell: Very peppery, not too fruity. Not too dynamic, but still enjoyable.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Taste is same as smell. Good carbonated mouthfeel and nice smoothness.

Overall Drinkability: An average to slightly above average amber.

one of the more drinkable ambers ive had recently. pours a lighter shade of red, with a decent white head. smells malty but balanced, less sweet than most, and doughy a little, but not raw in any way. flavor is terrific, really round flavor, perfect balance and an appropriate mouthfeel. medium bodied and soft. this is a session amber all the way, nothing too sugary to rot your guts, not too malty to fill you up, not too anything. perfect after a hard earned win with the hockey team. affordable too, will be purchased again

Served on-draught into a hefeweizen glass at Buffalo Wild Wings in high altitude Centennial, Colorado. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a one finger head of nice cream, fair thickness, and decent retention. Colour is a transparent amber, the most typically wholly amber colour beer I've ever seen.

Sm: Fair cream and amber hops. A mild strength aroma.

T: Really nicely built, with pleasant expressive amber hops and light cream. Hints of caramel and maybe nuts. Balanced near perfectly.

Mf: Smooth and wet, with lovely cream. Quite complementary of the flavours.

Dr: Extremely drinkable. Pairs very well with wings. I'd definitely get this gem again.

One of my favorite staple, go-to-brews; appearance is inviting, a deep reddish hue that poured crystal clear with an ivory head.

The smell is mellow but balanced with hop crispyness and malt tones.

Flavor on this one is quite amazing; simple, yet very tasty - caramel, toasty maltness balanced perfectly with subtle hop background. Not overly malty as to be sweet, but ends up tasty crispy and snappy on the palette.

Overall, a prime example of a larger craft-brewery production; always a great stand-by brew if you're hankering for something malty and balanced. Goes great with salmon, pizza, etc.

I had this on-tap at Wedges in Janesville, Wisconsin in Fall 2011. It was a 12oz glass for $3.

Poured a clear medium brown color with a good two finger head on it. Has a very good aroma of caramel malts and dry hops. The taste was crisp and clean which I was able to pick out flavors of roasted malts but not quite the extent they are used in heavy stouts. Overall the taste was very smooth and mellow. There has been a lot of demand for this beer over the year in my area of Wisconsin. Finally glad to see it here on tap and it was just as delicious as everyone said it was. A great everyday amber beer!

After visiting the brewery about 5 years ago, I’d been looking forward to having this again... too bad you have to go to the west coast to get some. Had a couple on-tap at Pour 24 in Vegas - one in the bar, one to go.

A: Serves up a coppery, light red with a thin, white head; no lace on this one.

S: Rich malts; some caramel; light, spicy hop notes.

T: Nutty malt flavor; some rich caramelly malts; a kiss of earthy hops; smooth and balanced.

M: Medium bodied with a moderate carbonation; so smooth.

D: Nice and malty, yet refreshing - it went down fast on the Vegas strip; glad to have this again! An altbier with just a smidge more of a punch than a traditional version.

Pours a nice amber color with a small thin head. Aroma is malty with a hint of caramel. But the aroma is nothing special. Taste is the same, some malts and caramel, lightly sweet. But again this not anything more then your average amber. Its certainly easy to drink, and would pair well with bbq or burgers etc. Just nothing you need to chase down.

I was out bowling in Chelan, WA. Two beers on tap - bud light and Alaskan Amber. Hmmmm...let's go with the Amber

A: pours a nice cloudy brown color and has a 1 finger of head at the top

S: Nose is fantastic considering it's an amber. Nose has malt, caramel, and chocolate?

T: Tones of sweet malt, slight hop presence, and yes some bittersweet chocolate.

M: Good carbonation and slightly drying finish

O: This is a solid offering considering the style. I wish I had more room in my suitcase to bring home a few cans.

Appearance - Clear amber/copper colour with an average size frothy beige coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is not much lacing. The head lasted for around 4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, honey, caramel

Taste & Mouth - There is a low amount of carbonation and the beer feels a little thin. I can taste lots of malts mixed with a corn syrup sweetness and some honey. There are also some light hops and a graininess. It finishes with a malty sweet aftertaste.

Overall - A decent beer that would be decent for a session. The look of it was a little disappointing but it still had a drinkable flavour.

A bit surprised by the style but ok here we go..

A- Pours an amber color with a fairly big head. Head has ok retention and leaves just a bit of spotty lacing.

S- Smell is a bit fruity, citrusy, and grainy. Has a really bready smell to it.

T- Quite a bit of a bready character here for sure. A bit of citrus hops and a sweeter taste maybe honey.

M- Medium in body and a bit on the higher side of medium in carbonation.

D- Quite different than some of the other Alts I've had. Not too bad but also nothing to write home about.
