Notes/Commercial Description:
Richly malty and long on the palate, with just enough hop backing to make this beautiful amber colored "alt" style beer notably well balanced.

compliments of flexabull in blind BIF 6

A Poured this 12oz bottle into my beautiful new Tripel Karmeliet glass (which flexabull sent as part of the schwag). A nice clear copper colored beer filled the glass complimented by a frothy off white almost tan colored head. After the head subsided, it left a pleasant collar and lacing on the glass

S not much happening with the aroma. mostly mild malts on the sweeter side. some caramel, light roasted malt and breadiness in there too (I love made up beer descriptor words ie: breadiness)

T the taste is just very average. not much going on here. similar to the smell, mostly malt in taste with very subtle hops (stretching for hop taste in there). not that it is a bad tasting beer, just very boring and unexciting

M pleasant creamy mouthfeel with a medium to thin body, decent carbonation

D while average in taste this is one of those beers you could drink a bunch of

A-Translucent ruby amber with a two finger head, well carbonated.

S-Lots of malt and bits of spices (nutmeg, like) and some roasted notes.

T-Starts with a roasty, nutty maltiness then becomes an earthy like spice.

M-Medium bodied, carbonated and thicker than I was expecting.

O-A nice beer, one of their better offerings. Altbier is an unappreciated style.

Served on-draught into a hefeweizen glass at Buffalo Wild Wings in high altitude Centennial, Colorado. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a one finger head of nice cream, fair thickness, and decent retention. Colour is a transparent amber, the most typically wholly amber colour beer I've ever seen.

Sm: Fair cream and amber hops. A mild strength aroma.

T: Really nicely built, with pleasant expressive amber hops and light cream. Hints of caramel and maybe nuts. Balanced near perfectly.

Mf: Smooth and wet, with lovely cream. Quite complementary of the flavours.

Dr: Extremely drinkable. Pairs very well with wings. I'd definitely get this gem again.

Picked up a single for $2 from Princeton's Liquors. Appears a crystal clear orange-ruby red with a short head. The aroma has a soft toffee note with a hint of fruit juice. The flavor brings out a little more dry malt with a hit of clean grain under the gentle esters. While not the most flavorful alt, it's quite drinkable and worth a couple pints.

This beer has been around for years but I am finally just getting around to trying it and reviewing. I should add this is also my first alt-style beer but I am set on trying some of the northern German and dusseldorf ales of the style.

I usually expect German style beer to be more akin to a lager but the alt style is actually closer to a lager due to the old top fermenting style. Check it out for yourself.

This beer pours a nice rusted amber color. It has a nice dusky glow to it. It almost looks like iced black tea. The head is nonexistent, which is disappointing if you look it pictures of the older beers of the style. It has a medium carbonation which is okay for the style.

The smell is a complex of darkly roasted crystal malts combined with generous pilsner hops. I smell strawberries, rasberries and faint bubblegum flavors. Sweetened tea-leaf is also present.

The beer is loaded with malts. Nutty flavors blend with faint caramel flavors. The beer is on the sweet side but is balanced by a generous dose of bittering hops. It finishes dry and crisp. Perfect beer for washing down a meal.

The mouthfeel is medium chewy with a clean crisp feel. Malt sugars coat my teeth.

This is a decent Session ale. It is a nice alternative to the glut of Pale ale's and IPA's out there. A noble attempt at a German classic. May not ever be the best in it's style but certainly worth trying again.
