A: The ale is a deep copper red color. It poured with a bit of head initially but that head quickly dissapates, leaving no indication of any carbonation.
S: The aroma is a mixture of grainy malts and a fruity pine-like flavor that is not driven by hops.
T: The flavor has all the strikings of a winter warmer, nice malt body and an abundance of spices. In this case the spices are pine-like, a fresh, dry fruity flavor from the spruce tips. The flavors mix well and allow that dryness to take center stage in a long finish.
M: The spruce reminds me of the juniper flavor from a sahti, adding a nice flavor kick.
D: This is the best winter warmer that I've come across, reminding me of a fresh Finnish sahti.
