APPEARANCE: The Alaskan IPA pours an extremely clear, almost disturbingly clear, pale yellow color. It looks more like an adjunct lager than an IPA. The head, however, is big and fluffy, close to two fingers. It dissipates very quickly though and without much lacing.
SMELL: The rather thin aroma of this one allows some roasted malt flavor and a little bit of smoke to come through in an otherwise hoppy smell.
TASTE: This is a very light IPA with a lot of grapefruit flavor and not a whole lot of malt to back it up. Some pine and resin come through a bit as well. This is a pretty straight forward, hoppy beer. Not much complexity.
MOUTHFEEL: Crisp and clean, it feels more like a pilsner than an IPA, which, in my book isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it is unusual.
OVERALL: Alaskan made a half-way decent IPA here, but it seems much more suitable for a hot night in Georgia than anytime in Alaska. It is more of a light refreshing beer than something to sip on a cool, crisp summer night or…well…a freezing cold night.

Bottle received in trade from BeerKangaroo, thanks for the opportunity.
Pours a crystal clear deep golden color with a huge bubbly off white head that persists forever. Aromas of caramel and citrus dominate with hints of mineral to round it out. The flavor is a bit of pine, spice, and citrus with a solid bready caramel to back it up. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick resinous mineral mouthfeel. Nice easy drinker, a bit old school but certainly serviceable.
