Appearance: Hazy light golden amber, surmounted by a massive, dense, somewhat coarse off-white head, which retains quite well. Pillars of fine carbonation drift lazily to the surface. Patchy Belgian-style lacing adorns the glass walls.

Aroma: Moderate citric notes, of both grapefruit and orange rind suffuse the aroma, although the grapefruit is most prominent. There is a little resinous pine as well. Lightly toasted pale malt struggles to assert itself.

Taste: Opens with a burst of juicy citric hops, with pine, and grapefruit notable, and a little orange rind, as well. AS the taste progresses, some biscuit malt drifts across the taste, subtle against the hop presence. Finishes with a moderate, lingering grapefruit and pine hop flavor.

Mouth feel: Smooth, very soft, full and pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: A very nice example, quite drinkable, a bi more of a malt presence would be welcome.

Presentation: Packaged in a short twelve-ounce brown glass bottle with a pry-off cap, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

A: A medium golden beer with good clarity. The bottle has a date of "B082813" which I assume means it's best buy date is ten days from now.

S: a medium-strong citrus hops aroma with a bit of the Simcoe character. There is a light malt sweetness.

T: A Strong hops bitterness with a medium citrus hops flavor. Light malt flavor and very little malt sweetness. The balance is fairly bitter. The finish is dry with an aftertaste of citrus bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with a medium-strong level of carbonation.

O: An APA with good hops flavor and aroma but this bottle is getting toward the end of the shelf life. I'd love to get a fresh bottle and think it would show better, but as is it's a pretty good pale ale.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 5.3 % abv.

Appearance: The body has a nice orange amber color with great clarity. It has a small slightly off white head that slowly settles. As it settles it makes some nice lacing on the glass.

Smell: The aroma has citrusy grapefruit like hops over light bready sweetness. As I drink I notice some very light peach and orange peel notes as well.

Taste / Palate: It has the good drinkable medium body with a nice balance of hops and malt. The edge favors hops and it has nice citrusy notes running through out. The base is a sweet bready and lightly caramelized maltiness.

Grassy hop nose with some meadow elements over light malts.
Orange amber with a slight protein haze under a 1/2" bone white lightly bubbled foam cap that produces fine lace.
Palate: Crisp and dry with a touch of tanginess with light melon, hop spice and long lingering fruit flavors.
Medium body and slightly above medium carbonation.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright copper golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Huge five finger off white head with good retention. Leaves a lot of lacing clinging to the glass.

Smell: A bright citrus hop forward aroma with a solid biscuity malt backing. Citrus hops upfront with good hints of orange peel, grapefruit, tangerine, mango, and lemon. Some floral and earthy hop hints as well as some pine spice and grass. Solid bready malt backing with hints of biscuit, cracker, caramel, and yeast. A pretty solid West Coast style aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a bright hop forward pale ale taste with a good taste of citrus and biscuit. Citrus hops with notes of juicy orange, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, and mango. Earthy hop notes of grass and pine. Also some floral hop notes. Soft bready malt presence with a taste of biscuit, grains, crackers, caramel, and yeast. A pretty solid well balanced APA taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Nicely creamy, juicy, and drying.

Overall: A pretty solid take on the West Coast style American Pale Ale. Good citrus taste with a solid biscuit malt backing.

12oz bottle. More outdoorsy themed pale ale from south of, I mean north of the, oh fuck it, west of the border Yankee sentiment.

This beer pours a clear, medium bronzed amber colour, with one chubby finger of weakly puffy, tightly foamy, and somewhat chunky off-white head, which leaves some scratchy snow rime lace in parts around the glass as things lazily bleed off.

It smells of a dank, somewhat musty pine tree bitterness, estery florals, grainy, crackery pale malt, muted citrus rind, and a mildly phenolic yeastiness. The taste is gritty, lightly doughy pale malt, a hint of untethered caramel sweetness, pithy orange and white grapefruit, and still heady floral, herbal, and pinecone hop bitters.

The bubbles are so-so in their capability to keep my tongue interested with their prancing frothiness, the body on the light side of middleweight, and sort of smooth, a wan clamminess (Imma lookin' at you, yeast!) sort of spoiling the party. It finishes off-dry, the limping malt still keeping a stiff upper lip, while the complex, if not particularly evolving hops continue to run amok.

Yep, I'm not quite sure which hop(s) cause that musty, dank sensation here, but without the attendant big-ass caramel malt and sassy pine and citrus apologist bitterness, things fall flat oh so quickly. I know that there's no free lunch (a fallacy, so thank you, U.S. government reps in the park adjacent to Sandpoint's City Beach), and no free ride (a further existential quandary when considering the bottle in front of me), but I'm just not digging this one.
