Hopothermia features features Nugget and Apollo provide a green, floral aroma and citrus hop base. Dry hopping with Amarillo, Citra and Centennial hops adds notes of spicy grapefruit and orange to compliment the resilient full malt body. This is an intense yet drinkable Double IPA.

Delicious. Along with the Dip Net Double IPA this is one of Alaskans best beers. Would be my desert island IPA. Great hop smell, terrific feel. Love this beer.

Honestly this is not really strong enough to be an "Imperial" IPA (I think 9% ABV is marginal, 10%+ more like it), but it tastes and drinks like one.

This is easily my favorite Alaskan Brewing beer; SMaSH Galaxy is a solid #2 and there aren't many others I like.

It can be hard to find in my parts (PNW) although Amazon Fresh in Seattle used to deliver it. They still might, I dunno, as I no longer live in a Fresh area. I'm in Fairbanks AK from time to time and it can occasionally be found on draft, and isn't too hard to find in stores although not ubiquitous.

Perfectly balanced strong, bitter beer.

I'm a sucker for a double ipa and this one is really good. A clear dark amber with minimal lacing. A really nice hoppy flavor and is very smooth - really hides that high ABV. All around this is a damn good beer and I could easy drink this all day (with a nap between beer 3-4).

Look: Clear dark amber with a two-finger head, nice retention, visible carbonation, bubbles rising medium fast, very tiny bubbles. Plenty of visible lacing
Aroma: First thing I pick up is the bready malt aroma some very subtle citrus notes behind that.
Taste: Expected sweetness on the tip of the tongue that slowly morphs into a bold bitterness, different from a lot of other IPA’s at least the ones I’ve been drinking. Those would have a sharper bitterness.
Flavor: Herbal, some grassiness but very herbal. The expected citrus notes are there but subtle. The malt tastes caramelized, intriguing balance.
Feel: Thick chewy mouthfeel, soft carbonation, viscous finish.
Overall: I like this, I greatly regret only buying one bottle. I will have to pick up a sixer in the near future. I like the herbalness of it. It doesn’t try to be like other IPA’s. This one has its own unique niche.

Hopothermia brewed by Alaskan Brewing Co.,with an ABV of 8.50% This Imperial IPA pours out of a 12oz glass bottle into a pint beer glass. The color is a deep amber color with a nice white head. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is Rich with hop bitterness , mixed with earthy grains and malts. There is also a slight sweetness in the small of this brew as well. So far Hopothermia is a nice inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold with flavors. You first pick up on the bold hop bitterness , them a nice smoothness from the earthy grains and malts. This is a well put together IPA. The body of this IPA, is a solid medium. There is nothing overpowering about this imperial IPA, it has a super nice balance to it. I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down. It is really hard to pick up on this 8.50% ABV in this brew, it is just that smooth. This is definitely one of the more richer fuller bodied IPA's on the market, not saying that is a bad thing. The mouth feel is Bold, Rich,Clean, Smooth and Refreshing. Overall I am going to give Hopothermia
A 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again givin the opportunity too. Alaskan Brewing Co., Did a real nice job with this imperial IPA.

Pours a clear dark bronze with a thick ivory head, good retention and decent lacing. Aroma is hoppy, both citrus and light pine. Flavor follows the nose with a sweet caramel malt start and a bitter finish. Feel is medium bodied. Overall a legitimate DIPA.

Another of my local, in-person trading partner, @tone77 's drop-offs, brings me to the next one in my day. I had toyed with hieing out to Bistro on Bridge in Phoenixville for their 10th Anniversary Party today, but then it dawned on me that such excursions are how I built up my backlog in the first place. I'm staying put, watching TV, reading books & drinking beer. That's a good day!

From the Bottle: "Double IPA"; "70 IBU Ale".

I Pop!ped the cap & started a slow, gentle C-Line pour since even the gentlest of these produces great foaming. I wound up with two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with excellent retention that left great lacing in its wake. Color was a gorgeous Deep-Amber/Light-Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose smelled like fresh, wet hops with a green, earthy quality of peppers, pine sap, grapefruit and a caramel malt backbone. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, a little light for the style. The taste was spectacular, beginning with a peppery spiciness, then opening up with grapefruit and orange/tangerine as pine sap & caramel brought up the rear. Mmm. Fabby! This somehow made me think of an English IPA, but amped up to a high degree. I do not mean that as a negative, either. The malt was less sweet than caramel, more towards toffee & when combined with the hops mélange, it made for a really good beer. The measured bitterness did not necessarily translate into its taste. By rights, it should have been MUCH more bitter, but instead, it was simply dry on the finish with a woody taste that made it seem as though it might have been barrel-aged. 8=O Dang, but this was goooood! YMMV.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a caramel color with amber highlights and a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus, light pine. Taste is bitter, spicy, minty, some citrus. Feels full bodied in the mouth and overall is decent, but a bit unbalanced, and it seems like different flavor profiles were not cooperating well.
