Notes/Commercial Description:
Nugget and Apollo hops added in the brew kettle provide a green, floral aroma and citrus hop base, while the later addition of Amarillo, Citra, and Centennial hops add notes of spicy grapefruit and orange - complimenting the resilient malt profile.

A pretty beer. In a snifter the beer poured a clear amber color with a small white head. There was a bit of lace.

A mostly pine aroma. Some citrus. Sweet malt.

Pine resin taste primarily. A wee bit of grapefruit. Caramel.

Sticky. Sweet and hoppy.

Nice beer.

Poured from the tap.

The beer is a rich, amber colour. Very light nose, hoppy, citrus, and clean. The taste was not as bitter as expected, but had a citrus and hop flavour. Very clean, balanced, and not intense. Slight bitter aftertaste.

Would I buy it again? Yes.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.

Appearance: Pours a clear copper amber orange with a moderate amount of rising bubbles. Solid two fingers of off white head with decent retention. Leaves a good amount of lacing around the glass.

Smell: A big juicy and earthy hop forward aroma with big hints of citrus and earthy hops with some backing caramel malt. Upfront scent of ripe citrus hops with hints of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, pineapple, apricot, lemon, and tangerine. Earthy hop presence with hints of dank pine resin and grass. Solid backing presence of malt with hints of caramel, grains, biscuit, yeast, and cracker. A very good hoppy aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a very juicy and earthy hop driven IPA taste with big notes of citrus, pine, and caramel malt. Big upfront taste of ripe and juicy citrus hops with notes of orange peel, grapefruit, mango, apricot, pineapple, tangerine, and lemon. Earthy and herbal hops with notes of dank and spicy pine resin and grass. Hops are nicely bitter and oily. Backing of sweet malt with notes of caramel, biscuit, grains, cracker, and yeast. A very good IPA taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Very juicy, oily, and drying. Alcohol heat is minimal.

Overall: A very good Imperial IPA. Has a West Coast style presence of tropical fruits with a solid caramel malt backing.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear reddish gold with a huge pillowy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is bready, biscuity malts with piney hops.

The flavor is sweet bready, biscuity malts and some tropical fruit with lots of piney, resiny, minty hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice DIPA. I like the hops but not the malt profile - it's too sweet, bready and biscuity.

Poured from the 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

I'm not mad at the way this beer looks at all. The pour produces a frothy, 4-finger thick head that persists until forming a plateau, then persists some more into a half-finger thick film above the liquid. The liquid is copper with some wheat hues and a slow, steady carbonation. As the head recedes, lace is left both horizontally and in a long-drape formation along the glass. Good stuff.

This is a piney type of hopped up beer, at least on the nose, which is a nice break from all the citrus I've been finding in my beers lately. I love citrus, but I like a piney IPA too. There's some sweet malt balancing out the hops on the nose, so the beer doesn't come off as predominantly bitter. The hops are pungent and resinous too.

Sweetness is prominent on the taste, which is a bit of a surprise, and I don't get blown away by hops, which is curious for a DIPA. The hops are a bit subdued, and seem less of the highly potent, aromatic kind, and more of the earthy, grassy variety I (correctly or not) relate with English IPAs.

There's plenty of sweet in this beer, as the malts throw their weight around, but the finish is highly bitter and dry, apparently so I won't forget this is a DIPA. There is a bit of hop spice on the tongue too, but I'd say this beer's a bit tame. The body is on the lighter side of medium, which makes for an easy-drinking beer, so that's a plus.

I like this beer, but suspect most hop heads would be disappointed. It's not aggressive enough and isn't very hop forward. But it's damn drinkable and enjoyable so it shouldn't be discounted.
