Notes/Commercial Description:
Nugget and Apollo hops added in the brew kettle provide a green, floral aroma and citrus hop base, while the later addition of Amarillo, Citra, and Centennial hops add notes of spicy grapefruit and orange - complimenting the resilient malt profile.

Picked this up as a single. Wasn't sure about the sixer thing.

Pours a really nice looking amber color with a cream colored head and lacing all over the glass.

The aroma is mostly orange smelling. Sweet malt. Doughy.

The taste is rather different. Definitely a malt forward type of DIPA with the hops really kicking through on the swallow. Big lemony taste as well. Some pine and earth as well.

Mouthfeel is good and full bodied.

Overall, I think I just expected too much from this beer. A different type of DIPA for sure. The use of the Nugget and Apollo hops takes this DIPA where most don't travel. While the beer was still good, it's not something I'm used to....but I suppose I could. Wink-wink.

A clear, handsome, rusty amber, with a fluffy head that sticky's up the glass with lacing.

In the nose comes a biscuit-pine softness, with some wine-like fruits, navel orange and pineapple. Not getting the sweet malt aroma I like in other IIPA's.

In the mouth the orange/pineapple turns to tart lemonade. Chewable vitamins. White grapefruit rind bitterness. Still very little sweetness. The 8.5% alcohol seems nonexistent.

Very drinkable, and at $7.99/4-pk, a bargain.

Bottled on 4/5/14

Appearance: A finger worth of head on the pour which stuck to the sides of the glass while drinking. Active carbonation is about right for the style. The color is dark orange, light red.

Smell: Big bitter hops run head long into sweeter bright malts. Hops take on a heavy saturated citrus profile while the malts have a toffee, caramel aroma. Lingering bitterness sticks around with sticky malt.

Taste: Pine and saturated citrus blast on the front. Like the aroma the taste is filled with heavy caramel and toffee with weigh down on the palate. Some herbal fruits and grass pop up toward the back end but quickly get hidden by the bigger tones.

Mouthfeel: Big, heavy malts and hops.

Overall: Freshness may have been an issue here, but I feel like the base of this beer is just another malty and piney DIPA. Mehh.
