Notes/Commercial Description:
Nugget and Apollo hops added in the brew kettle provide a green, floral aroma and citrus hop base, while the later addition of Amarillo, Citra, and Centennial hops add notes of spicy grapefruit and orange - complimenting the resilient malt profile.

Nice head here, robust and looking real good in my glass. Full head settles into a nice foam topping on top of the glass. Color is dark orange golden and the beer has good clarity.

On the nose, the hops are very pronounced along with underlying citrus notes, particularly pink grapefruit. Also getting yeasty challah bread notes in the aroma mix.

On the palate, I am hit first with that pink grapefruit. Just like the peel remnants on a grapefruit weave in bitterness on that fruit, in the glass the hops provide a similar sensation as the fruitiness subsides.

On the finish, the hop bitterness has lots of staying power.

Mouthfeel has probably the right touch of carbonation, though I could do with just a wee bit less. Substantive, approaching chewiness / syrup like texture - ok that is an exaggeration, but just sayin this is not a thin one.

Alcohol level given the Imperial styling goes north a bit, which suits me just fine. An enjoyable brew - and now remembering the great time had at Alaskan Brewery last summer - a definite beer lover's stop if ever in Juneau.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: Clear copper with tons of carbonation. Frothy, offwhite head with lots of little bubbles poking through. Head drapes off the sides of the glass until the end.

S: Caramel, toffee, biscuits, and some grapefruit and pine as well.

T: Stinging grapefruit citrus and bite of bitter hop resin dominates up front. That bitterness keeps coming back, and is never fully overcome by the sweetness impart by the malt. Some tobacco and pepper in between. Finishing flavor is a bit flat though, not sure if that's because taste buds have been scorched.

M: Bitterness reigns, but never ventures into undrinkable territory. Malt backbone is there just doesn't transition between bitter and sweet when needed. Good warm boozy feel at the end though, and head is fairly creamy.

O: An adventurous beer that isn't firing on all cylinders. Still a good beer, with a few tweaks could be a very good beer.
