Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.

Appearance: Pours a very dark blackish brown with a hint of ruby. About one finger of off white head that quickly fades away. Leaves a decent amount of lacing around the glass.

Smell: An earthy and fairly vegatal aroma with a big scent of fall spices. Upfront mix of spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and clove. Earthy hints of pumpkin. Sweet hints of brown sugar. Sweet and bready malt with hints of caramel, toffee, biscuit, grains, yeast, and some hints of smoked malt. Slight hints of roast chocolate as well. Earthy hops are pretty laid back. The spices stand out the most. A pretty nice aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, an earthy and fall spice driven pumpkin taste with some smokey and roasty malt notes. Upfront taste of fall spices with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and allspice. Taste of the pumpkins come through. Bready malts with notes of caramel, toffee, biscuit, toast, grains, and yeast along with roasty notes of chocolate and smoked malt. Sweet taste of brown sugar. Subtle presence of earthy hops in the background. A pretty solid spicy and smokey taste.

Mouthfeel: Body is on the heavier side of medium. Carbonation is moderate. Spicy and fairly drying feel. Smoke lingers.

Overall: A pretty solid pumpkin beer. The spices come through the most but there is a nice smokey malt presence.

From a 12 ounce glass into a snifter.

A- Dark-khaki head forms a finger thick and dissipates quickly. No lacing on the glass's sides, but there is a layer atop the body. The body is pitch-black with faint carbonation. 3.75

S- Big fruity pumpkin aroma, as opposed to the more vegetal-type. Subtly sweet caramel and vanilla mesh with a dark roast smell. The pumpkin is dominant, while I hoped for more porter profile. 4

T- This is surprisingly sweeter than I was expecting, with an almost bubblegum quality, and the same fruity pumpkin. Beneath that I taste light allspice or nutmeg and slight notes of caramel and vanilla. It's again less porter-like than I'd expect. The smokiness on the finish is the only things that suggests a porter really. 3.75

M- It's on the lighter side as far as body, smooth, and light on the carbonation. As it warms, it develops a smokier, thicker and chewier mouthfeel. 3.75

This brews not bad at all and in fact becomes a load more enjoyable as it warms and reveals more flavors. It's good and the type of beer one could drink many of.

Pours a very dark, nearly opaque brown with hints of ruby in bright light and a tan head.
The aroma is pumpkin and spice as well as some roasty malt.
The taste features a bit of bitter then creamy pumkin, nutmeg and cinnamon. Some sweet brown sugar and even dark chocolate follows. A nice lingering bitter at the end.
The mouthfeel is weak. To me, this is a beer that cries out to be smooth and creamily luxuriant but is thin and a bit watery.
Overall, tastes good but could be sooo much better.

22 oz bottle. Pours brown with a small creamy light brown head that retains well and leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is sweet pumpkin pie with spice - cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and a little roast chocolate malt.

The flavor is sweet chocolate malts with a little roast and some pumpkin pie spices (ginger, allspice, nutmeg) leading to a dry floral roast finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a decent pumpkin porter. A bit sweet for my tastes.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Reddish-black with initial thick tan head that dimishes to a thin line.

Smell: Pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger and caramel.

Taste: Tastes like a Porter with pumpkin pie spices. Pretty much as expected, with chocolate, light coffee, molasses, caramel, cinnamon and ginger. Seems really good other than the sugary aftertaste, which unfortunately became cloying about halfway through the bottle.

Feel: Lighter bodied than expected with low carbonation. Either needs to be fuller with that low of carbonation, or more effervescent with that light of a body. Finish is not dry enough. It is smooth though.

Overall: Good aroma and taste, but the sugary finish and off mouthfeel pull it down. Too bad.

Nose: there is more malt and chocolate on the nose than pumpkin. there is some spice faintly evocative of pumpkin pie.
Pours brilliant mahogany under a thin light tan head.
Palate: Porter chocolate malt flavors clash a little with the pumpkin flavors and do not quite come together.
Medium full body and medium low carbonation.
