It has a thin head with no lacing and a hazy, copper colored body.
The aroma is only the faint smell of hay. A bit of a disappointment.
It tastes like yeast, a barnyard, grain and with a mild bitterness.
Low carbonation and medium body.
A fair enough beer but lacking in the appearance and smell areas.

12 oz bottle poured clear, red-amber in color, and topped by a very good head.
Malty and very lightly spicy (perhaps just from hops). Some chocolate appears by the finish, and is quickly joined by a hint of coffee. Aftertaste is dominated by dark roasted malts.

O: decent but unexceptional brown ale.

12oz : tulip

Pours a clear, deep mahogany red with a fairly large amount of fine sediment floating throughout. Foamy, fairly short lived, creme colored head.

Subtle blend of caramel malts with light accents of dark fruit and cocoa. Fairly faint spicy hop profile.

Medium body, foamy, fizzy carbonation.

A standard, yet well done Winter Warmer. Though there was nothing wrong with it I would have liked to have drank it when it was a bit more fresh.

12oz bottle to New Belgium Globe.

A: Clear reddish/brown body, decent head and lacing.

S: Bready malt and malt sugars, a decent backbone of sweetness accented by orange peel and light spices; faint nutmeg and allspice. Slightly toasted, with the suggestion of nuts.

T: Some more balancing hops make their presence known here, and again the citrus component is discernible. Bready malts, with faint caramel and brown sugar, and background spices.

MF: Lighter medium body, fairly balanced with sweetness and low bitterness.

O: A fairly decent drinker, this is a lighter winter warmer that doesn't go overboard on spices or other adjuncts. I had low expectations, and they were met.

Orange-brown body with a decent head. Lightly roasted grain aroma; faint nuts. Warm, toasted grain flavors; roasted nuts; brown sugar; twinge of hop bitterness. Medium body; somewhat chewy; semi-dry finish.

Not as big and bold as some holiday ales yet a solid effort overall. The malt sugars are warm and inviting and cling to the palate, slowly dissolving and leaving a nice hop bitterness and slight brown sugar aftertaste. Perhaps not the epitome of a winter warmer, but tasty and inviting all the same.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Firestone restaurant pint glass
From: BevMo in Mission Valley (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $14.99 for a BevMo variety 8-pack (w/ BevMo card)
Purchased: Dec. 31, 2013
Consumed: Jan. 10, 2014
Misc.: N/A

Poured a dark caramel brown semi-clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki white head. Good amount of circular foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Great retention on the top all the way down.

Smelled brown sugar, caramel, toffee, roasted nuts and nutmeg. Some type of hops in there that balances the malts nicely, but couldn’t figure it out.
.
Tasted similar to the nose with brown sugar, toffee, caramel, nutmeg and roasty nuts. Very smooth.

Medium body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth, somewhat warming finish.

A pretty decent beer. Not quite a winter warmer for me, more like a winter lukewarmer, but good nonetheless.

Bit of faint tart fruit, nearly cherry-ish, even more faint floral type of nose. Adequate wispy lacing which is quick to fade to nothing which follows through on the head which is also faint and wispy and a slight ring around the glass edge. A lazy bubbler, with a truckload of sediment which when shone by a flashlight makes the head glow a christmas frosting red.
Mouth follows through on the slight tart cherry-ish feel with a nearly raisiny not quite spicey hanger on that lingers in the mouth with a slight pucker. Not really a solo beer, but one that is going to be an enabler at the table in the pre and post dinner categories of the evenings drinking. Should pair well with chocolate and some other things that utilize chocolate and fruit and also of course. Meat, and maybe some aged cheeses.
