Appearance: This beer was a hazy, golden-amber color. The off-white head rose up to over two fingers and settled very slowly. The little bit of sediment that escaped the bottle provided the perfect conditions to form a heavy bead. This kept a solid layer of bubbles on top of the beer the entire time. There was a significant amount of lacing.
Smell: Pretty straightforward aroma. Dry, bitter hops dominated. Underneath was a sharp fruitiness and hints of vanilla. Very light on the roasted malt. Not unpleasant smelling, but kind of weak.
Mouthfeel: Thin upfront, but it did gain some body as it moved back into the move. The carbonation developed strongly in the back of the mouth as well.
Taste: Like the aroma, pretty straightforward. Hints of roasted malt did little more than balance out the hops bitterness that arose quickly in the middle. The hops were kind of generic; no herbal citrus, floral, etc. flavors really jumped out. They just provided a nice dry bitterness. Occasional hints of wood and vanilla in the background, with a little sweet fruit late in the aftertaste.
Good and drinkable, but a little boring and one-dimensional. I almost think the 3.3 it a little harsh, but considering that the smell, mouthfeel, and taste were all pretty average, I guess that's about right. Also, I know if I go to the store to pick up an IPA, this would be well down on the list of choices.

A classic American IPA - solid!
aroma: Big pine with orange and grapefruit
taste: pine, orange, grapefruit, pepper, spice, orange peel with slight white wine and a malt and slight honey backbone. As it opens up, becomes smooth and tastes start to soften: becomes sweeter overall.
Very nice IPA, very American and enjoyable to drink.
