Poured into a pint glass on 10/15/09
A - Pale, cloudy & layer burnt orange - something of a sunburst with the color fading from darker on top to lighter on bottom. Billowy one finger head shrinks slowly & leaves an excellent cap of foam throughout. Most of the head remains tight but it does offer up thick swaths of lace by the end.
S - Tropical citrus aromas are in full swing with orange, grapefruit & pineapple notes that culminate in a pleasant, juicy-sweet nose. A light toasted maltiness manifests as the beer warms.
T - Splendid hop flavor & bitterness. A good bit of pine is present, working with citrus notes that seem more restrained than in the nose. Still there is a subtle blend of grapefruit, orange peel, pineapple & lemon zest. There are some dry bread & toasted malts that are relegated to the background.
M - Prickly carbonation spices up this medium-bodied, expertly weighted beer. The finish is mostly dry with lingering residual citrus undertones.
D - Superb drinkability; this beer is consistently solid from start to finish. In my opinion this is a choice IPA. I've been a fan for a couple years now & am thrilled to enjoy it whenever I am able. Much appreciation to PDXHops for the chance to have another go at one of my favorites.

Julian code reads 09347 (i.e. bottled on April 3, '14)
Appearance - Pours a hazy amber orange with an off-white finger width head. Fair retention results in a broken layer of suds across the surface. Lacing is fair, mostly spotty, and holds with good stick.
Smell - Equal notes of orange hop character and bready malts, along with some peppery spice.
Taste - Follows the nose. Orange notes and a bitey, peppery spice backed by an enormous amount of bready maltiness. Hints of pine in the finish to ride along with a low level of orange pith bitterness.
Mouthfeel - Medium body with a fair to lively level of carbonation. Goes down easy with a nice, crisp, semi-dry finish.
Overall - This may have been an amazing IPA back in 1995, but times have changed. Most would consider this an APA by today's standards, and I couldn't disagree. It's a really nice, drinkable beer, but nothing close to what's expected of the style in this age of hop bomb madness; truly a victim of time.
