Pours dark with hardly any light areas escaping even along the edges with a thin tan-gold foam. A slight molasses aroma translates to a sweet chocolate malt taste with a pleasant bitter finish. A syrupy mouthfeel lends itself to the sweetness.

A very easy drinking stout that doesn't disappoint in many areas. It's balanced, fairly complex, and not too strong or too thick so most everyone can enjoy this stout.

On Cask @ UPick6 in Erie PA. Pours black with a thin slightly off-white head. Smokey, woody, roasted coffee nose with a hint of molasses. Thin, watery palate. Slick feel from the hand pump, with soft/silky carbonation. Needs refined.
Quite an Alcohol Burn for a 6% Stout.

From very, very old notes (rediscovered, ca 2008)

A pint at Bridgeport, during Happy Hour ($2.75).

A: Very dark, a shade from black. Nitrous gives an always-spectacular looking 1-finger of solid light tan head, clinging in curtain-like strands.

S: Not surprising, aroma is almost nil. Just a hint of burnt coffee-ish aroma, maybe some malty milk chocolate.

T: A dry stout for sure, with a lingering dusty chalkiness that dries immediately on the tongue. This one is mostly cocoa with a hint of coffee bean roastedness.

M: Smooth and creamy, all that I'd expect a stout on nitro to be.

D: Nice stout, good balance and fairly robust flavor. I've had this a couple times before and will certainly have it again.

Nice black pour, ample head, tan, thick and hangs out for a long time, like a desperate fat girl. Smells like coffee, lemon and licorice, a unique combo.

Good taste, smoky, coffee esque, but mild. Licorice less prevalent on the tongue as opposed to in the nose. Keeps the bitterness in check, all of which seems to come from the roasting, not the hopping, not super hoppy, but not without hops either. Silky.

Deft and complex, yet dry and sessionable. This one is just one notch below the super world class elite stouts that are =/< 6%

A - low dark head. Need a better glass. Dark brown body lets some light through. Some nice lacing. No yeast in the bottle or the glass.

S - rich hoppy with dark fruit and ginger notes. Hard to define. Cloves i think. A bit spicy like a bazaar.

T - not quite what the smells led me to expect. This is a beer for people who like black coffee. Sweet fusil initial tastes very little transition in the middle then a finish that is simple to the point that you cant find anything there at all. Then out of nowhere a strong bitter aftertaste jumps up and down on your tounge like a 2nd grader on a bed. Hoppyness is there but not like the roasted adjunct flavors. I wish there was a bit more yeast. After warming some chocolate and ginger bread flavors peaked their heads out.

M - Smooth and creamy but the bitter aftertaste LINGERS so long its hard to feel much else.

D - drinkable the kind of wake-you-up beer that i'd only hunt for after say... A night of overdrinking.

pours very dark brown, when held to the light you can faintly see through it, but otherwise just looking at it on the table it is stout black. very nice dirt brown head.

In the smell i get a lot of robust toasted malts and bitter dark chocolate. smells reall nice.

tastes pretty similar to how it smells, but a bit of alcohol makes its presence known in the end. Fairly tasty.

medium bodied, a bit thin, but refreshing. has an almost creamy feel to it.

All in all this is a pretty good stout and is a very drinkable dark beer. if you're looking for a stout to throw into your mixed six pack, this is a good one to try.

Had this on tap at the BridgePort brewery. Black, with nice lacing appearance. Had elements of dark fruits (raisins, prunes) in taste. Not viscous like some stouts, a little thinner...making it much more drinkable in the process. A little carbonation but not out of place in this stout. Very balanced. Would definitely try again.

Had this beer on tap at the Bridgeport Public House in Portland Oregon on February 8. I had their sampler first and decided on having a whole pint of this since it was my favorite. Review is taken from notes.

The appearance of this beer is as good as this gets. Completely black with a finger and a half of head that WILL NOT dissipate! This is as good as any stout looks, single or double. Lacing goes the whole way down the glass.

Smell is just slightly better than average. Dark roasted malts and coffee linger in the aroma and dark molasses is there as well.

The taste revealed everything I expect from a stout. Coffee, chocolate and roasty goodness are all there. What put this over the top was a banana bread-esque like nuance that I do not usually find in stouts and found quite enjoyable in this one.

Mouthfeel was perfect! This is extremely smooth a nice creaminess and little carbonation on the tongue. Definitely as rich and velvety as a single stout comes.

I could probably drink at least a few of these but on this particular night I had to drive later and limited myself to one after sharing a sampler with my wife.

On Mondays pints are $3 and when I am in Portland again, I will probably find myself in Bridgeport on a Monday or two having one of these. It paired perfectly with a chocolate bread pudding that they had for desert. Out of this world good combination and highly recommended!

Rich ivory head over 1/4". Served at a perfect not too cold temperature. Dense 87% Cocao hue. Low - Zero perceptible carbonation on palate (a good thing). Toasted chestnut and bitter chocolate flavors. The weight in the mouth was perfectly filling without being viscous or thin. I would be thoroughly contented to suck this down on a regular basis. Place almost seemed to clean for this sort of session beer.

Reviewed from notes

Near black pour with a huge, thick, creamy head that leaves some good lacing behind. Smell is a somewhat odd blend of malts and spices, an unfortunate metallic aroma, stinging citrus notes, and booze.

The taste is ashtray, raisin, apple skin, and earthy hops. A bit too charred for my liking....I enjoy a big roasty stout but this one tastes too much like a cigarette butt.

This is medium to full bodied with tons and tons of carbonation than cause it to engulf the mouth. Definitely not one of my favorite stouts, but I suppose I could drink it if I had to.

Ap - ALL PRAISE THE ALL MIGHTY NITRO TAP!!! gorgeous deep, dark brown/black with the perfect, creamy head!!!
Ar - Cinnamon, clove, baking spice, and anise burst forth
T - RIch flavors of dark fruit, molasses, malt, and coffee
M - Perfect texture (so unfair when it is on nitro!) Medium+ body
D - wonderful and balanced with alcohol in check; low tannins

Verdict:

Other than the IPA, this is my favorite Bridgeport brew. It IS unfair because I love stouts from a nitro tap, but come on, this is a great beer. Surprisingly drinkable though. Good also for those not used to or appreciative of dark beer.

Poured from a bottle, aged two years. Recently found it hidden away and forgotten in my dad's beer fridge. Maybe not the best beer for aging, but it tasted good to me, so what the hell.

Pours a soul-sapping black that swallows any light. Head was surprising thin and faded quickly. Light lacing while the head lasted.

Nose is moderate - molasses, chocolate, roastiness. Taste follows suit - molasses, chocolate, roastiness, a bit of licorice/raisin. It's an approachable taste and goes down easily. It doesn't challenge you (which is expected from the age), but there's enough there in the taste to keep it interesting. That's a good mark in my book. Very enjoyable.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Like silk on the tongue. Medium bodied.

Drinkability is excellent for a stout. Went down very easily.

Appearance: Looks black in almost every light, deep ruby around the edges when held up to strong light. Dark tan head, some lacing.

Smell: Dark roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, slight alcohol.

Taste: Chocolate/molasses up front, followed by moderate hops and black roasted grains/malts. Some sips yield a hoppy aftertaste, some a more malty taste. Complex and pleasing.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, nicely fills up the mouth. Medium to full bodied.

Drinkability: Surprisingly drinkable for a stout, probably due to the smoothness. The alcohol could be better masked though.

Overall: A solid stout, the label says it is brewed with black strap molasses, which was evident in the smell. Nice to drink on a rainy day.

A: Black color; though orange/brown on the edges, no light coming through. Poured a 2 finger light brown head with good retention to a 1 finger dollop that was thicker inth the middle than the edges. Patchy lacing in broken rings.

S: Big toasted malts; ccoffee, molasses and licorice.

T: Consistent with aroma but with dark fruits and toffee in the middle. Nicley balanced bitter for the finish.

M: Full bodied. Low carbonation. Big beer, but smooth, not (not slick).

D: Very nice stouit that very tasty, balamced and smooth.

Poured into my pint glass, this beer is a shade lighter than deep black. There's a thin tan head on top that disappears quickly, but it leaves plenty of sticky lacing. Smells of roasted nuts and malts, raisins, and hints of cocoa.

The mouth is creamy, but a tad thin for the style. The creaminess carries over to the flavor as well. Big creamy chocolate goodness all over this beer. Finishes roasted and slightly nutty. This is a great standard stout that I will reach for quite often.
