Bomber poured into a pint glass.

Look - Soft copperish hue with a dash of pink, a bit hazy. Average head that dies down quickly, with basically no lacing. Fair to middle on the bubbles

Smell - Raspberries! Not in a bad way, just interesting from my IPA point of view. Makes me think of when I was a kid in mom's kitchen and I smelled berries while she was canning . . . a happy smell.

Taste - Hmmmm . . . a bit more berry than I was expecting, but looking at the label, I think it's pretty close to their intention. As strong as the berry flavors are, it's not bad, just not my personal go-to style. As a fruit beer, it's a lot more palatable than an apricot abomination I had a few months ago from another brewer (awful artificial chemical flavor in that one - yuck!). For an ABV of 7.8, it was smooth, and thank goodness, though it's sweet, it wasn't so sweet as to ruin the drink. Smooth over the tongue, just slightly sticky.

I bought this on a recommendation from a friend. Although fruit beers aren't my personal choice, I think they did a nice job here. It made for a pleasant change of pace from my usual fare (SN Torpedo - yum!) . . . a nice brew for late summer evenings. Well done, Bridgeport.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #68 (Spetember 2012):

LOOK: Cloudy brassy orange, sufficient head

SMELL: Fresh berries, gummies, juicy, chalky yeast, marshmallow, peppery phenol, estery, taffy

TASTE: Smooth, crisp snap, very juicy, mildly tart, mish mash of berries, dry, yeast, crackers, earthy, spicy, herbal, more fruit, underlying warming alcohol, bone dry finish

Expectations can run a bit high if you put “Tart” on the label especially if you are throwing “Belgian Style Ale” around. Aroma is better than the flavor, fruit falls flat as soon as the finish comes around. Vague tartness shows no real character and the flavors that are there don’t mesh well.

Bomber served cold into a pint glass.

Stumptown Tart is a slightly pinkish amber color with thin fizzy head. As with most fruit beers, it settles very fast and leaves no lacing behind.

Aroma is really nicely done with great fresh raspberry and strawberry character.

Flavor is similarly enjoyable and has all the same elements as the aroma. It has a good level of tartness without straying into wild ale territory.

Mouthfeel is light in body and the carbonation is a little high but it's balanced and easy drinking. I would not have guessed it was almost 8% ABV.

Overall a very tasty fruit beer one probably one of the best I've had from Bridgeport.

Pours a three finger pale pink head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Hazy amber/red color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Tart raspberry nose and flavor is tart raspberry and slightly sweet strawberry, hops are hidden. $5.95 for a 22oz bottle from Made in Oregon Portland, Or.

I am probably a little bias in this review. I drank an imperial pint bottle of this beer while on a family vacation to Portland. We drank it with our food from the Bridgeport Pub in the Pearl District. I find myself retiring my favorite full bodied dark beers in favor of these lighter and more floral beers. I love the mix of berries in this brew and loads of hops. I've never had a marion berry except in this beer but its very flavorful and sweet. Its a sweet beer but not sugary like a wine cooler. It could be a great after dinner beer. I could drink this instead of having a dessert.

Reviewed from notes 4/13/12. Brown bomber into shaped pint.

A: Grapefruit pink with one and a half fingers of white head that faded into a thin ring around the glass. Head very light and bubbly like a soda almost.

S: Berries berries berries! The raspbery is most dominant. A touch of pale malt and light hops come through. Smells crisp and refreshing, can't wait to drink it.

T: Berries up front followed by a good dose of hops. I was hoping for a little more tartness. Not bad though, the hoppy bitterness balances the sweet from the malt and berries. A good summer beer for sure, and the berries leave a lingering berry aftertaste, yum.

M: Kind of light with an oily thickness that I didn't expect at all. Surprising mouthfeel,. Doesn't detract from but doesn't enhance drink-ability.

O: I like this beer even though it is pink. Not sweet at all and not as tart as i was hoping for from a beer with raspberries in it and tart in the name. But the balance is there. A good brew, I went and got another one the next day.
