I decided to this as a tasting of a rye beer (this one) alongside a rye whiskey (I went with Bulleit 95% Rye).
The beer pours light amber with an off-white head.
The aroma is delightful with lots of fresh hops and some spicy rye notes.
The flavor is well-balanced, fairly sweet (sweeter than most rye beers I've had), with some spicy notes. Definitely a good amount of hops (maybe along the lines of an English Pale Ale) but the dominant note is the rye. Spicy with a tiny tinge of sourness.
After enjoying half the bottle, I next turn to the Rye whiskey and pour a little bit. Many of the same rye notes but with the alcohol burn (of 90 proof whiskey). Fairly dry but with a tiniest hint of honey. Almost (but not quite) a scotch-like aroma, but without the peat.
OK, back to finish the beer.
I can still taste many of the rye notes (echoing that of the whiskey) but with more sweetness. Maybe some maple syrup? A little bit of herbs. A tiny bit of black pepper. Some jewish rye breadyness.
Overall I recommend this beer. My only regret is not buying two bottles. Next time I might try this one with a little bit of the Bulleit 95 rye whiskey added for extra fortification and ryeyishness.

Poured into a balloon glass.
Look: A nice deep amber orange color. A bright white head recedes to a film with a thicker ring around the edges. Good webby lacing on the glass.
Aroma: Rye grains all over, with some slight sourness.
Taste: Excellent. Rye malts bring a dryness at first, with some caramel sweetness soon after. Faint tart notes fill out the back.
Mouthfeel: Slightly dry, but refreshing as well.
Overall: I really like this beer. Clean with lots of character.

Aroma made up of sweet toasted malt with some herbal notes mixed in as well. Appearance is dynamite. I let my bottle sit out of the fridge for a half hour before pouring. The head was huge and billowy white. Sustained for minutes on end. Body is clear with a reddish gold hue. Almost champagne like bubbles continue to rise from the bottom. Flavor is nicely balanced for this style. A little sweet at first but followed up with a herbal bitter dryness. Rye grain is there but I don't pretend to be an expert at identifying different herbs and grains in beer. If it wasn't named Smooth Ryed, I might not say rye. Nice drinkable body, smooth carbonation. Could drink this year round. Nice all around beer.

one of the more rye heavy rye beers out there. I really liked this one a lot. it pours a surprisingly light and clear color, new penny copper is my closest approximation, radiant, with an inch of lasting white head. the nose is pretty spice from the rye, but there is a good dose of other malts in here, some caramel notes and something german maybe. flavor really has a nice rye spice to it, peppery and intense both at the start and in the finish. I like the hop kick at the end, and there is a fruity element too, maybe a touch of orange peel or something that ties the whole thing together quite well. its not as complex as some other rye brews, but it has a clever flavor profile that was just spot on with a bowl of homemade chili. the feel is just okay, its creamy and well carbonated, but its also a little thin. more body would put this beer into the A range for me. I could also see this working well in a cask situation. overall another solid brew from Bridgeport. this is one I will definitely be buying again.

12oz bottle picked up tonight at the COOP.... Didn't catch the price but probably about $1.70... Poured into my slim tulip... Clear light amber... nice long lasting white head provides good lacing for the entire glass...
Nose is fairly hop forward... citrus with a good backbone of toasty and lesser caramel maltiness... a bit of floral hoppiness with warmth.
Flavor mirrors the nose... I get a little bit of rye as a crispy dry toasted bready note... again plenty of citrus hoppiness... lingers on the palate forever for a lower ABV brew... mouthfeel is lighter side of medium with a good everpresent carbonation.
Pretty solid... Could possibly use a little more rye flavor to help balance out against the bigger hop profile.... but damn tasty and I will certainly buy as long as it is fresh.

Appearance 3.25: Attractive coppery gold color. Completely translucent. Smallish 1/4" head.
Smell 3.50: Good bouquet. Malty, grainy, with a nice warming sensation.
Taste 4.0: Front is slightly sweet with a very brief hint of hops. Middle is thick and malty. Semi-sweet with a slightly dry and spicy twang. Finish also has that pleasant spiciness and showcases a tasty, hoppy, alkaline hint along with very brief flashes of malt and caramel. Aftertaste is short, dry and refreshing.
Mouthfeel 3.75: A bit too bubbly. Less bubbles would have made it feel more like an ale, but this level makes it sort of strange, an in-between kind of beer sensation.
Overall 3.75: Probably the best rye beer I have tasted. It is not perfect by any means, but is good at what it attempts to do: create a refreshing, "seasonal" (the box said that, not me) brew. Sessionable and probably great with food, there is no hint of its 6.3% ABV. A sleeper, a surprise and worth purchasing if you see it.

A: Dark but crystal clear red with a white fluffy head that sticks all the way down.
S: Not much to speak of, malty and slight hops. Very feint peppery rye scent.
T: Strong caramel malt back end with a feint piney hop bite. The rye character is here, but I'd really like more of it, this tastes a tad watery.
M: Medium to light bodied, but with a nice carbonated character. Fairly watery for my tastes.
O: Not bad at all, a good session ale. I wouldn't buy it again but would gladly drink many more!

Two fingers of foamy head on a clear, dark amber colored body.
The aroma is bright citrus with the rye coming through strong too. Nice.
The taste is smooth with lots of rye spice. There's a strong bitterness that comes in at the end, which seems out of place.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.

Had this on tap at Bridgeport. Nice heady pour, which kept its retention. Decent lacing and a clear copper color. Decent caramel and malty smell, and the mild hops kicked in after 1 taste. For a ryle ale, this holds up well. The consistency of the taste is alittle dissapointing. I found ithis beer needed a bit more hops to balance. Overall, this was good, not memorable.
